Agentic Coding in a Real-Life Data Platform Migration
Session:
Migrating from an on-premises data platform to a modern cloud architecture can quickly become overwhelming. Legacy SQL logic, inconsistent naming, undocumented transformations, and multiple stakeholders make migrations complex and time-consuming.
In this session, we’ll share how we used coding agents to accelerate and structure a full migration from on-prem SQL Server to a cloud-based Fabric platform. By combining structured markdown context files with AI agents, we documented legacy logic, compared old and new SQL transformations, generated dbt tests, and enforced naming and modelling standards across the team.
What began as a lightweight experiment became a practical collaboration layer in the migration — helping us align on logic faster, reduce manual review work, and work in parallel without losing consistency.
