Dává nám to svobodu mluvit otevřeně o tom, co fungovalo – i co ne.
Dejte nám vědět v komentářích nejpozději do pondělí do 8:00, jestli službu využijete a pro kolik dětí. Podle toho rozhodneme, jestli ji zajistíme.
🎟️ Důležité informace:
Vstupenky: Vstupné na Research Tuesday je dobrovolné. Kapacita je omezena na 35 míst, abychom udrželi osobní a otevřenou atmosféru.
Rezervace: Zarezervuj si místo včas. Pokud se ti plány změní, prosíme, uvolni místo ostatním.
Těšíme se na známé tváře i nové účastníky!

Agenda
17:00 Doors open, grab some food, find your seat 😋
17:30 Customizable select elements
by Eric Veliyulin @ Forte
Styling the native select element has long been frustrating: browsers and operating systems control much of its appearance, which makes consistent design difficult and often pushes developers toward building fully custom dropdowns with JavaScript. New experimental browser features let you keep the native element while gaining control over how it looks and behaves, including the ability to style the trigger, the dropdown, and even the options themselves using standard HTML and CSS.
In this 30-minute session, we’ll start by outlining the limitations of traditional selects, then walk through the new capabilities with a few focused demos, showing how to build more flexible select elements without giving up the benefits of native form controls.
18:00 Let's break some WCAG rules
by Elise Kristiansen @ Variant
This talk is not a checklist of rules. It’s an interactive wake-up call.
15–25% of the population needs websites to accommodate different types of disabilities. Still, 94.8% of websites contain accessibility issues that make them harder to use.
It’s not because we don’t want to develop accessible websites and applications.
But we often lack knowledge and perspective. We build based on our own experience because that’s what we know. In this talk, you’ll get to experience how our applications work for someone with a screen reader, low vision, or limited motor control, and feel firsthand the challenges they face.
The talk combines knowledge, practice, and lived experience to raise your awareness of accessibility on the web and how small changes can make a huge difference.
You'll see the most common mistakes in action, who they affect, and how to fix them. So come experience the world through someone else's senses, and learn how to be a more accessible developer.

### UX TALKS
Talk 1: Design influence, how to get stakeholder buy-in on your ideas and create the design impact you want.
Simon Vanleeuw, Product/UX Designer @ IO / Organiser @ UX Belgium
For all of you who have taken so much painstaking effort to make a customer centric solution for a client or a stakeholder, just to see your vision being compromised, your worries neglected, or your stakeholders asking you to make changes that make your design alarm bells go off, this is the talk for you.
In this talk, Simon is going to share his experience with influencing stakeholders, where he went from changing types and colours to being trusted to make more strategic decisions for a product. Being his honest self, he is going to reflect on some cases where he learned something, where he failed, and what lessons can be drawn from that, so that you're better equiped to deal with this in your day to day work.

Leighton Buzzard, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom
This one we're combining the event with IRL (In Real Life) meetup, so there will be plenty of others who work remotely or as creatives about. This means a change in venue we'll be in a courtyard (fancy I know) at Linslade Mews (about 5-10 minute walk away from the Black Lion / Train Station)
There will also be someone doing headshots (limited to 20 people) let me know if you want to get in on it and update that profile pic. (cost is £40 set in the forge coworking space)
Bring your curiosity, your stories, and maybe a few of your latest projects to chat about. We’ll bring the welcoming atmosphere and a beer garden full of creative energy.
Newcastle upon Tyne, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom
For the first time since its inception in 2024, A11y North is leaving behind the confines of the Leeds Inner City Ring Road and heading even further north for an evening of digital accessibility talks and networking.
We're delighted to be joined by Rob Lavender (Senior Technology Delivery Lead, Opencast), whose talk titled "Radical Honesty: A Non-Expert’s Guide to Fixing What’s Broken" will set the scene for the evening.
Rob is a self-described non-expert with a simple philosophy: if it’s broken, let’s find someone to help us fix it.
In this refreshingly honest talk, Rob ditches the jargon to focus on the power of being a 'useful amateur.' He’ll show you why 'good enough' is often the most radical act of inclusion, how to use your voice to call out what’s not working, and why the best way to move the needle is through simple, gritty collaboration. Rob has 11-years experience developing frontend digital services for UK Government departments, advocating for an accessibility first mindset.
More details to follow.
Agenda:
6:30 - Ben Tillyer: Welcome and Introductions
6:45 - Rob Lavender: Radical Honesty: A Non-Expert’s Guide to Fixing What’s Broken

The event will benefit both the candidates and the hiring managers who must review their portfolios. It's a win-win 🚀✨
Synopsis
We’ll focus this event practically and create ample opportunity for us to critique your portfolios and case studies. We invite you to volunteer for that and submit your work before the event.
Session program:
Pavel will briefly introduce what a hiring manager looks for when reviewing your portfolio, the common pitfalls of product & UX designer portfolios, and the minimum but powerful structure to put in place when constructing a portfolio and its case studies.
We’ll soon move to interactively critiquing the portfolios of a few people in the room. Like this, we'll help each other proudly present the work that showcases what we can do, increasing our chances of wooing a hiring manager who will consider us for their open roles.
Submit your portfolio (optional)
Would you be interested in submitting your portfolio for feedback? This would enable Pavel to review it in advance. If so, please provide a link in the event comments section or send it to kargar.el@gmail.com by April 20th. Thank you!
Pavel Hamřík
My most recent tenure was with Productboard, where I went with the company from series A to series D, saw it grow from 50 people to 500, then shrink back to under 300 again, and take its revenue from a few million to several dozen. It’s where I graduated from a product designer over a design manager to the head of design in the interim, finding that a place in design leadership suits me.
I brought several designers on board as a hiring manager, helped establish our ways of working, and kept them relevant & fresh in an ever-changing startup environment.
Before that, I led product development at Figure, a challenger point-of-sale startup, where I built the team from the ground up to about a dozen when I left three years later. I’m proudly witnessing the company alive and kicking years after.
Currently in the process of understanding what ‘good design’ is, making steady progress, and realizing it’s mostly not what you see on the internet. Let’s talk about it.
Can’t wait to meet y’all.
Refreshments
Yes! 🥪🥤 No alcohol though, you're gonna have to wait till we go to a nearby pub afterwards.

Ostatnie miesiące przyniosły nam sporo zmian, ale nasza misja pozostaje taka sama - chcemy rozmawiać o dostępności i budować wokół niej świadomą społeczność. 💛

Potrzebujesz wsparcia?
Do zobaczenia!
