Architecture Kata @ Salzurg AG
About this event
What will we do?
Imagine you've joined a software team with an existing application landscape. The business wants to launch a new product, and your challenge is to integrate this new business idea into the existing systems and not to start with a blank sheet of paper.
A real business/domain expert will join the session as your customer. You'll be able to ask questions, clarify requirements, and validate your ideas throughout the workshop.
Working in small groups, you'll develop an architecture proposal and discuss questions such as:
- Which existing systems should be extended, and where do new components make sense?
- How should the different parts of the system interact?
- How can the solution scale and evolve as the business grows?
- Which decisions should be made now, and which can be deferred?
The focus is on evolutionary architecture. Rather than designing the perfect end state, think in time horizons: What is the simplest solution that works today, and how can it evolve as new requirements emerge?
We'll focus on architectural concepts, trade-offs, and communication and not on implementation details, class diagrams, or database schemas. Technology only matters when it solves a real business problem.
What to bring
No laptop is required. Pen and paper or a whiteboard are all you need.
Of course, you're welcome to bring a laptop if you'd like to do some research, bounce ideas off an AI assistant, or prepare a short presentation of your group's solution, but none of that is required.
Everyone is welcome
Whether you're just starting your software engineering journey or have years of architecture experience, you'll benefit from discussing ideas, making trade-offs, and designing systems together with other developers.
