16.30 - 17.00 Food, Drinks and Social before the talks start.
17.00 - 17.30 When one region isn't enough: Scaling across continents
Speaker: Carsten Thiel
Description:
It's one of the big selling points of the hyperscalers: You get identical computing resources wherever you want in the world. All through the very same platform with a unified user experience. This is a story of how we made use of that promise.
ScaleAQ delivers aquaculture solutions across the world. Sending data from sites all over to world to one data center and then accessing it there from a browser on that site comes with high costs in both latency and data transfer.
In this talk we'll look into how we leveraged Azure Front Door and Traefik Ingressroutes to seamlessly hide all of the complexity of scaling globally from the end-user. Spoiler: Includes some "surprises".
17.30 - Nais APM: Because Clicking 14 Tabs to Find a Latency Spike is Cruel
Speaker: Hans Kristian Flaatten
Description:
Welcome to a whimsical tour of โ nais/grafana-apm-appโ , the open-source hero your LGTM stack didn't know it needed! If you've ever stared at raw OpenTelemetry data until your eyes blurred, this talk is your warm cup of chamomile tea.
Here is what we are unpacking:
Why does this exist? You already have Mimir, Tempo, and Loki. But connecting the dots manually is terrible for your blood pressure. We needed a real APM experience without the proprietary handcuffs.
What is it? A glorious, zero-config Grafana plugin that gives you an instant Service Inventory, beautiful RED (Rate, Errors, Duration) dashboards, and dependency maps that actually make sense.
How does it work its magic? We don't read raw traces to build dashboards (we aren't monsters). I'll show you how we hook into your OTel pipeline's derived metrics, seamlessly linking Mimir, Tempo, and Loki so you can jump from a scary latency spike straight to the offending log in a single click.
Come for the pretty charts, stay for the profound sense of inner peace when debugging.
Those who want are more than welcome to gather in prefered bar after the meetup is finished to continue good discussions over a good drink ๐บ
