About this event

Join us at the Milano Hub for the 12th Workshop on Computing Within Limits, re-envisioning a more ecological future for technology.

Now in its 12th year, the LIMITS conference series concerns the role of computing in human societies situated in a world of planetary boundaries and limits, such as limits of extractive logics, limits to a biosphere’s ability to recover, limits to our knowledge, or limits of technological solutions to societal issues.

As an interdisciplinary group of researchers, practitioners, students, and scholars, we seek to reshape and orient the broader computing research agenda, grounded by an awareness that contemporary computing research is embedded in finite socio-ecological conditions. LIMITS strives to be a place for envisioning technologies and futures "otherwise:" a place for work that considers how visions and frameworks of pluriversal design, degrowth and post-growth affect computing. It asks how we can move closer to computing that supports ecological and just futures for diverse human and non-human lifeforms and thriving biospheres.

This year's conference is a virtual, distributed workshop, with the possibility for participants to share in the experience together at local in-person LIMITS-HUBS. The programming will be in English.

You can drop by the dedicated Milano LIMITS-HUB from 5-9pm on June 23-24th and from 5-8pm on June 25th). As a small independent studio, we appreciate your registering in advance, which helps us with planning, and ensures that you'll get important updates regarding the program. If we end up near capacity, we'll also give priority to registered attendees.

The CHROMAKAIROS creative technology lab is just up the street from Cascina Campazzo and the threshold of the Parco Agricolo Milano Sud, active agricultural production sites and green space. You are welcome to join us after the proceedings close each day to continue the conversation! After all, it is ecological and social relations like these that are too often missing from conversations about technology and progress.

Tuesday evening, June 23rd, when the conference closes we will walk down the street for a guided tour of Cascina Campazzo and potentially go get something to eat together.

Follow @chromakairos on Instagram for updates! We'll also send program updates to registered participants via email.
