AI is becoming incredibly good at giving us fast solutions to our problems. But what happens when we use those solutions before we have properly understood the problem? This presentation explores how we can use AI not as an answer machine, but as a thinking partner: to break down complex problems, challenge assumptions, explore different perspectives, and discover questions we hadn’t considered. We shouldn’t see the goal of making AI available to everyone as simply making our lives easier or helping us do more with less effort, but as an opportunity to become better thinkers instead. We shouldn’t use AI as an excuse to think less, but as a tool to think deeper, wider, and differently, while keeping human experience, critical thinking, creativity, and diversity of thought at the centre

Liliana Pereira - Who Wrote This Code? Critical Thinking in the Age of Vibe Coding

AI can now turn an idea into working code in seconds. And honestly, that’s pretty amazing. But what happens when we can generate code much faster than we can actually understand it? Vibe coding is changing the way we build software, but I think it also changes something deeper: how we think about the code we write.

In this talk, we’ll look at what happens when we start trusting code just because “it works.” How do we know what assumptions AI made? What happens when we hit an edge case? Can we explain the code without asking AI again? And, most importantly, would we know if AI got it wrong?

This isn’t a talk about stopping vibe coding. Quite the opposite. I want us to enjoy it, experiment with it, and use it to build things we couldn't build before. But as AI gets better at writing code, our ability to understand, question, and take responsibility for that code becomes even more important.
