Hello 50:50 World in Zurich: Feeling Like An Imposter?
About this event
Hello 50:50 World September Meetup with Breakfast
What? Feeling Like An Imposter? Rethinking Self-Doubt in Tech
Who? Vera Thienert, Senior Manager Center of Excellence Health & Engagement, Zalando
Hosted by Hello 50:50 World in collaboration with Zalando Zurich Tech Hub.
Have you ever walked into a meeting and wondered whether everyone else knows more than you do? Questioned whether you really deserve to be in the role you’re in? Or worried that, sooner or later, someone might discover that you’re not as capable as they think?
These experiences are often described as Impostor Syndrome, and they are frequently framed as something individuals need to overcome. But what if there is nothing wrong with those feelings in the first place?
At our September Hello 50:50 World Meetup in Zurich hosted by Zalando, we’ll challenge some of the common myths around Impostor Syndrome together with Vera Thienert, who has worked in Zalando’s People & Organization department for more than 11 years.
Together, we’ll explore questions such as:
- Why is the term “Impostor Syndrome” misleading?
- Is impostor thinking really more common among women?
- What is particular about experiencing impostor thoughts in tech environments?
- When is the ambition to "overcome impostor thinking" a hindrance to personal and professional growth process?
Come for breakfast, and stay for a conversation that might change how you think about that little voice telling you: “Maybe I don't belong here.”

About Hello 50:50 World
Can we really achieve gender equity and diversity in tech if we stay in our feminist bubbles? Do you believe that we can only achieve more equality when everybody is on board? Then join the conversation on diversity in tech at our Hello 50:50 world meetups.
To participate, you’ll need to bring someone with a different perspective (e.g., gender, nationality, etc.) to ensure balanced participation. Both you and your +1 need to get a ticket so we can better manage attendance.
Do you have a topic or a speaker in mind for a lightning talk? Get in touch at hello5050world@gmail.com
