About this event

Geek Out - 2026 and 100 Years of Television - How did it start?

Every wondered how in 100 years we got from a mechanical camera invented by John Logie Baird to streaming live videos to your phone?

From his years of experience of working at the BBC, BSkyB and QVC, Liam will be covering how television originally worked, the move to digital, why changing a satellite channel takes over a second, how CRTs and modern flat screens actually work, and the basics of video compression. All of which allow you to stream this talk on your mobile phone.

Agenda:
18:30 Arrive, Network and Food.
18:45 Introductions and catch-up.
19:00 Talk
20:30 Close and head off to pub (The Good Intent?) for some more talking.
