About this event

Explore how past technological developments can inform more responsible and ethical decision-making today!

On 17 June 2026, join founders, innovators, researchers and community leaders at St John's Innovation Centre for an inspiring morning panel session titled “Tech for Good — Past Lessons; Future Choices.”

In partnership with The Centre for Computing History, this panel discussion will examine how lessons from past technological innovation can help shape more responsible, sustainable and ethical decision-making for the future. Together, the panel will explore topics including the hidden costs of technological progress, the environmental impact and energy demands of modern computing, the lifecycle and recyclability of emerging technologies, and whether technology can genuinely help address the climate crisis without creating further challenges of its own. Discussions will also consider how “green” green tech really is, and the role regulation may play in shaping future innovation.

The panel will be chaired by Gareth Marlow (former COO at Redgate Software and chair of The Centre for Computing History) and includes Martin Rigby (ET Capital), Nadirah Hussain (Broken Tech Broken Earth) and more soon to be announced.

The panel is free to attend but advanced booking is required.
