About this event

We’re delighted to announce the next meetup will be on Wednesday the 17th of June. The meetup will start at the slightly earlier time of 5.30pm and will be graciously hosted by MCS at their offices on the 10th floor of the The Ewart building on Bedford Street.

Our Guest Speaker, Thomas PK Healy, will kick things off at 6pm so plenty of time before for drinks, food and catching-up.

Thomas is a member of the International Standards Organisation's global panel for the standardisation of the C++ programming language. A lifelong computer enthusiast, Thomas began working with computers at the age of five and started programming in Visual Basic at eleven. By fifteen, he had ventured into C++, and in university he was introduced to embedded systems programming for PIC microcontrollers in the C programming language, later expanding to Arduino in C++.
With extensive experience across multiple platforms — including DOS, MS-Windows, Linux, macOS, Barebox, and embedded environments such as Arduino, Atmel, Texas Instruments, and PIC microcontrollers — Thomas has implemented his proposed C++ language features in assembler for eight CPU instruction sets (Motorola, SuperH, ARM32, AArch64, x86_32, x86_64, Hewlett Packard, and Texas Instruments).

He maintains an online archive of his papers, hobby projects, and algorithms at http://virjacode.com

Thomas will discuss his papers and how he has implemented his new features in the GNU g++ compiler.

What more is there to say really?

Well just a little as it happens, and that is that the agenda will follow the usual format:

  • Arrive, meet people, eat and drink - and hopefully meet some new faces!
  • Welcome and Introduction with some words from our generous hosts
  • The main event: Thomas’s talk, with questions and interaction encouraged!

It's great to get the 1st meetup of the year in the calendar so RSVP early and we’ll look forward to seeing you there!
