About this event

Join Us for the 9th Rhein-Neckar AI & Data Hub Meetup!

Edition #9: AI as an Interface: From Genomic Code to Agentic Coding
Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a bridge between highly complex systems and human understanding. Whether in genomics or software development, AI models are opening up new ways to explore, interpret and act on information that was previously difficult to access.

For this edition, we will look at two very different but closely connected perspectives: how multimodal AI can help researchers better understand the human genome and how local language models are changing the way developers work with code.

Expect two insightful talks, dedicated Q&A sessions and plenty of time for networking with the Rhein-Neckar AI & Data community.

Our Speakers:
👉Martin Danner (Senior Data Scientist and ML Engineer, scieneers)

  • Talk: "Talk Genomics To Me: From Sequences to Sentences"

How can we better understand the vast complexity of the human genome?

Personalized medicine requires a deep understanding of the genetic code in order to specifically detect and treat diseases. Nevertheless, large parts of the human genome remain, to date, not understood.

To address this challenge, we developed  Genolator - a multimodal AI system designed to bridge genetic code and human understanding.

By integrating genomic sequence representations, protein structure information, and natural language models, Genolator  allows researchers to query coding sequences in natural language and explore potential biological processes, molecular functions, and cellular roles associated with a sequence.

This ability to connect diverse biological layers through natural language queries creates a new interface for exploring genomic data, helping researchers and physicians uncover functional relationships and generate new insights into the genome.

👉Christian Beisbart (Senior Software Engineer, HMS)

  • Talk: "Local Models, Professional Results: The New Baseline for AI-Assisted Development"

An overview of where local LLMs stand today in terms of practical capability, and what that means for teams looking to adopt agentic coding workflows.

  • What "agentic coding" means in plain terms: AI that writes, tests, and iterates on code autonomously
  • How model quality has evolved: the shrinking gap between local and frontier models
  • Common developer tasks local models already handle well
  • Tools and frameworks making local agentic coding accessible today
  • A realistic picture of where limitations still exist and how to work around them
