18:00 — Ivan Sardelic Step Functions: Concurrency, Cost, and Resource Management
Ivan compares three ways to start a workflow — direct SDK calls, Lambda triggers, and SQS + EventBridge Pipes — judged on cost, failure modes, and operational footprint. Then it's into the canonical DynamoDB semaphore pattern for capping concurrent executions, with the production-grade improvements the AWS sample leaves out: jittered backoff, per-namespace counters, and a sweep workflow for lock recovery.
