About this event

🚀 We are excited to announce that the Causal Data Science Meetup of Athens will be part of this year’s Greeks In AI symposium with a special event!

📆 On Wednesday, July 15th at 12:30pm, members of our community attending the Greeks in AI conference will have the opportunity to join a 2-hour session dedicated to causality, organized by us.

💡 In this session, we are delighted to host Dr. Christoforos Anagnostopoulos, Chief Causal AI Officer at Valo Health, who will speak on Biopharma as a Causal AI Incubator: From the p-Value to Foundation Models and Beyond.

Drug discovery and development is perhaps the ultimate arena for causal data science: it is centered around the causal question of drug efficacy; built around the causal infrastructure of the randomized clinical trial; inspired by real-world patient patterns and needs analyzed using observational data science; informed by mechanistic modelling of different parts of the human organism; and deeply integrated with biology and medicine which is replete with causal narratives.

Chris Anagnostopoulos has been a lifelong researcher and practitioner of causal AI, from his days as an academic working in graphical modelling, a director of R&D in modelling and simulation in a London-based tech unicorn, McKinsey's global lead in Causal and Scientific AI, and now the world's first "Chief Causal AI Officer" working for Valo Health, a Boston-based biotech. Chris will outline how Causal AI will revolutionize drug discovery, why it hasn't quite done so yet and what is missing to get us there, infused with anecdotes from various industries - and why a biotech might need a "Chief Causal AI Officer".

âž• Following Dr. Anagnostopoulos' talk, the meetup session will continue with a presentation by Ilias Tsoumas, PhD Candidate at the National Observatory of Athens, on Causal Inference in Positive-Unlabeled Settings. We will then conclude with an open discussion on Greeks in Causality and opportunities for community building.

🔔 Please note: attendance at Greeks in AI requires a ticket (details and purchase here), which grants access to the full 3-day conference program, including this meetup session. It is not possible to attend the meetup without a ticket.
