The BMad Method for Java Developers | Live Coding a Quarkus Finance Tracker
About this event
Welcome to the JUG Oberpfalz Online Live Coding Sessions!
Our online sessions are held in English and streamed live on YouTube.
The recording will be available afterwards. Join the live chat, ask questions, and follow along as we build a real application together.
This session is hosted by Johannes Rabauer with special guest Brian Madison, creator of the BMad Method.
Session Topic
AI coding assistants have become incredibly capable, but great software is about much more than generating code. How do you guide AI through requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, and review in a structured and repeatable way?
In this live coding session, we'll explore the BMad Method by building a modern Personal Finance Tracker using Quarkus and Qute. Starting with an idea, we'll briefly walk through the planning process before letting AI help us implement the application from scratch.
Rather than focusing on theory, we'll demonstrate how the BMad Method works in practice and discuss why a structured engineering workflow often produces better results than simply writing prompts.
What we'll do
- Build a Quarkus & Qute Personal Finance Tracker from scratch
- Briefly explore requirements and architecture using the BMad Method
- Use AI to plan, implement, refactor, and review the application
- Discuss practical workflows for professional AI assisted software engineering
- Share techniques for getting more consistent results from AI coding assistants
- Answer questions from the community
- Publish the finished project as open source
Topics
- BMad Method
- AI assisted software engineering
- Quarkus
- Qute
- Enterprise Java
- AI coding workflows
- Software architecture

This will be a genuine live coding session, including the unexpected challenges that come with building software. We'll discuss where the BMad Method adds the most value, where human judgment remains essential, and how Java developers can combine modern AI tools with proven software engineering practices.
Whether you're a Java developer, software architect, engineering leader, or simply curious about the next generation of AI assisted software engineering, you're welcome to join.
See you in the live chat!
