Software Engineering Events in Chelmsford
This is the widest category on Brainberg, because software engineering itself spans a huge range of events: language user groups (Python, Rust, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Elixir, Ruby, Zig), framework communities (React, Svelte, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, NixOS), backend architecture tracks, testing and QA tracks (ISTQB certification courses, mutation testing, test-automation workshops), refactoring and DDD circles, hackathons, and the long tail of "thoughtful engineering" meetups that don't fit neatly under any specific stack.
This page narrows the Chelmsford calendar to Software Engineering events. It's a subset of United Kingdom's wider tech-event schedule, useful when you want something specific to go to in the city this month.

Essex Women In Tech
Chelmsford, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom
Essex Women In Tech is a fun in-person meetup celebrating and connecting women in tech!
This is a first event and I'm keeping it simple: a room, some drinks, and a chance to meet other women working in tech across Essex!
No agenda. No panels. No pitches. Just conversation.
Whether you're a developer, a data analyst, a founder, or someone adjacent to tech and still figuring out where you fit - you're welcome. This is a tester to see what people want, so turning up helps shape what it becomes.
Venue to be confirmed. Details will be updated here as soon as it's locked in.

Engineering it Better
A practical journey through pixels, timing, animation and constraint
What does it take to make a low-cost LED matrix display look genuinely good?
In this talk, Gary Atkinson explores the engineering behind a Raspberry Pi Pico-driven HUB75 RGB LED display system, built to produce deep colour, smooth scrolling, anti-aliased text and animated graphics from surprisingly modest hardware.
Starting with the familiar problem of “it works, but it could be better”, the talk looks at how small design choices accumulate: colour depth, gamma correction, PIO, PWM timing, memory layout, sprite rendering, animation timelines and app-driven scene authoring. Along the way, Gary will show how software, hardware and visual design have to work together when every byte, frame and microsecond matters.
This is not just a talk about driving LEDs. It is about the practical craft of engineering: understanding constraints, improving the result step by step, and turning a cheap display panel into something more polished, expressive and useful.
Whether your interest is software, hardware, embedded systems, graphics, making things, or simply understanding how better results emerge from careful technical decisions, there should be something here for everyone.
