Software Engineering Events in Newcastle upon Tyne
This is the widest category on Brainberg, because software engineering itself spans a huge range of events: language user groups (Python, Rust, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Elixir, Ruby, Zig), framework communities (React, Svelte, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, NixOS), backend architecture tracks, testing and QA tracks (ISTQB certification courses, mutation testing, test-automation workshops), refactoring and DDD circles, hackathons, and the long tail of "thoughtful engineering" meetups that don't fit neatly under any specific stack.
This page narrows the Newcastle upon Tyne calendar to Software Engineering events. It's a subset of United Kingdom's wider tech-event schedule, useful when you want something specific to go to in the city this month.

Software Crafters Newcastle β Coding Dojo
Newcastle upon Tyne, π¬π§ United Kingdom
This is a collaborative, hands-on session where we work on a programming problem (or coding kata). We encourage pair programming, and practicing Test Driven Development (TDD). The goal is to practice, learn from each other, and explore new approaches. Thereβs no pressure to arrive at a working solution.
You can code in the language of your choice β whether it's one you're proficient with, or one you're exploring for the first time. This session is all about collaboration, honing your skills, and expanding your network in a fun and relaxed setting.
Throughout the event, weβll share ideas, discuss best practices, and take the opportunity to learn from one another. A basic knowledge of programming is recommended to get the most out of the session, but you donβt need to be an expert.
Food and drinks will be provided, with vegetarian and vegan options available.

Open Source Guardrails for AI: Securing LLM Applications at Scale
Large language models ship with alignment training, but alignment alone cannot enforce the custom policies every enterprise deployment requires. Guardrails, ie. runtime inspection layers that examine inputs and outputs against pre-defined rules, fill this gap without modifying model weights. This talk explores how to build a layered defense for LLM applications using open source tools. It covers the spectrum of guardrail techniques, from fast deterministic checks through purpose-built classifiers to full LLM-as-judge evaluation, how to configure multiple guardrail profiles and swap them at runtime, and how to monitor detection events. The talk also addresses how to evaluate guardrail effectiveness through red teaming, ensuring defenses keep pace as models, policies, and attack techniques evolve.
