About this event

We are back with raw tech content! The Marine & Ports team invites you to the first ABB TechMeetup in a long time.
When ships are out at sea, hundreds of kilometers from the nearest port, their safety depends on the decisions made by the captain and the engineering crew. For years, our Kraków laboratory has been developing the technologies, software, and integrated systems that support those critical decisions - enhancing vessel reliability, energy efficiency, and operational flexibility worldwide.
We bridge Internet of Things (IoT), automation, advanced data analytics, predictive analytics, and digital services. From remote diagnostics of electrical drives and maintaining IT business continuity across 250+ vessels to R&D on technologies for autonomous ships.
At this meetup, we are opening our doors to share three core engineering perspectives. Expect concrete, no-fluff insights based on real-world experience building solutions that must perform flawlessly across the world's oceans.

🎯Who Is This For?
Software Architects, Developers, DevOps/Cloud Engineers, Data Analysts, IoT enthusiasts, and industrial engineering professionals looking to see how code and infrastructure translate into real-world maritime technology.

1. Arkadiusz Pawłowski - Technology, Service and the Sea
I will share my perspective on the technology and service in the maritime industry, drawing on my experience in IT operations management, cloud transformation and cybersecurity. With a background in managing technology teams and IT operations supporting more than 250 vessels worldwide, I will explore how technology enables operational reliability, safety, and business continuity at the sea.

Arkadiusz Pawłowski | Marine IT Operations Manager
Marine IT Operations Manager and technology leader with 14+ years of IT experience, including 11+ years in management. Experienced in leading cross functional teams, managing large scale IT operations, and driving cloud, data and cybersecurity transformation. Combines strong technical expertise with business acumen. Arkadiusz has a proven track record in scaling complex IT environments across the marine and enterprise sectors. Holds an MBA TECH in Automatics and Computer Science, with a focus on maritime cybersecurity and business driven innovation.

2. Andrzej Sadziński - When Code Becomes Cheap: Rethinking Software Quality in the AI Era
AI can generate code faster than any development team in history. As the cost of producing code continues to decrease, the real question becomes: what is still expensive?
In this talk, we'll look at lessons learned from years of maintaining legacy systems, building new products, and making architectural decisions that had to survive long after the original developers left.
We'll discuss why architecture, domain boundaries, trust, and system understanding are becoming the dominant investments in software engineering, and how traditional quality principles evolve when software is increasingly created by machines rather than humans.

Andrzej Sadziński | R&D Principal Engineer/ Software Architect
Andrzej has spent more than 20 years working in software development, systems design, and architecture. He currently works in ABB's Marine and Ports division, where he combines hands-on software engineering with architecture and technical guidance for development teams.
He is particularly interested in software architecture, AI-assisted engineering, and the practical challenges of building software that remains maintainable as technologies, tools, and development practices continue to evolve.

3. Sylwester Szewczyk - Condition based maintenance for rotating machinery in marine industry
Rotating machinery plays a critical role in marine operations. In this session, I will discuss practical applications of Condition-Based Maintenance, covering machine health monitoring, diagnostic technologies, and predictive analytics used to enhance asset performance and operational efficiency. Combining hands-on industry experience at ABB with research activities in the field of condition monitoring, I will share insights into how data-driven maintenance strategies can support smarter decision-making across marine assets.

Sylwester Szewczyk | CBM Product Owner at ABB and a PhD researcher in condition monitoring at AGH University of Kraków.
He specializes in vibration analysis, signal processing and data science, helping operators detect problems early and improve equipment reliability.
