18:30 - 'Bad at keeping secrets - security in the command line' by Ia Mgvdliashvili
There has been a sharp rise in supply-chain attacks, and we kind of had it coming. As a Software Engineer, Ia has found the security of our development lacking. Not only do we have nothing that works out of the box, but even with reasonable effort, it's hard to have robust protection. All the security best practices we insist on in the context of most applications seem to disappear when it comes to command-line applications, and this double standard is the reason why these supply-chain attacks are successful.
In this session, we will first review recent security incidents that targeted developer and CI machines. The talk will also cover common best practices for protecting important secrets.
