🤖🌿 Bucharest Techies: Afterwork AI

Apoi continuam cu o conversatie deschisa despre AI agentic:
– Perspectiva practica din comunitatea tech: cum este folosit in proiecte reale, in dezvoltare, automatizari, HR, sales etc.
– Antreprenori si fondatori: cum integreaza AI agentic in business fara sa transforme totul intr-o “firma robot”

19:30 – 22:00

AI Reality Check: Lessons from Research, Product & Engineering

Bucharest, 🇷🇴 Romania

Three speakers. Three angles. One honest conversation.

During this year’s edition of FOMO – Festival of Modern Owners, RO AI Alliance is hosting a community event, bringing together different perspectives on what AI looks like beyond the headlines: from autonomous research systems, to production-ready AI products, to engineering experiments with new coding workflows.

Alexandru Dan (AI Professor, Ethical AI Ambassador & CEO @ TVL Tech) brings the research lens with a talk on autonomous AI exploration: how AI systems can enter feedback loops, learn from their own outputs, use tools, create subagents, and run experiments with limited human intervention. His session will explore ideas behind Autoresearch / AI That Learns While You Sleep, touching on Claude Projects, self-learning workflows, examples from tools like Suno and online experiments, and the bigger question of how these systems should be guided as they become more autonomous.

Stefania Budulan (AI Technology Lead @ Adobe, with cross-industry consulting experience) brings a builder’s perspective to “Building AI That Works: The Decisions Leaders Need to Unlearn.” Drawing on real-world experience delivering AI solutions, her talk reveals why promising demos rarely translate into business impact, and what leaders must rethink to build AI that is reliable, scalable, and actually used.

Tudor Predună (Senior Sensor Fusion Engineer @ Bertrandt Group) brings the engineering lens through a technical field study on vibe coding. His talk will look at how AI-assisted coding changes the way engineers prototype, test, debug, and make decisions. Tudor goes beyond the hype around “coding with AI” and explores where these tools genuinely help, where they create new risks, and what happens when engineering intuition meets AI-generated code in real workflows.

Expect a practical, community-driven evening with people building, studying, and questioning AI from different angles.

Where: AFI Victoriei Plaza, Blvd. Aviatorilor 8A, et. 2
When: 21 May, 18:00.
The event starts at 18:00 with networking and snacks.
The talks will begin at 19:00.

Revisiting Adam for Streaming Reinforcement Learning

Bucharest, 🇷🇴 Romania

Bucharest Deep Learning is back with another exciting session! Join us for a deep dive into Streaming Reinforcement Learning alongside Florin Gogianu, presenting recent research on making pure sequential learning highly competitive.

The Talk: Revisiting Adam for Streaming Reinforcement Learning

Learning from interactions as soon as observations are perceived, without explicitly storing them, promises simpler, more efficient, and adaptive algorithms. However, for over a decade, Deep RL has relied heavily on memory-intensive replay buffers or parallel sampling to tame learning instability.

This talk takes a step back to investigate the efficacy of established batch-RL algorithms, like DQN and C51, within the pure online streaming setting. Florin will show that when appropriately tuned, standard optimization techniques can be surprisingly effective. The presentation will unpack the "unreasonable effectiveness" of the Adam optimizer , demonstrating that two properties are essential for robust streaming performance: bounded objective derivatives and variance-adjusted weight updates.

Finally, the talk will introduce Adaptive Q(λ) (AQ(λ)). By combining eligibility traces with Adam's variance adaptation mechanism and a bounded error signal, this new algorithm surpasses existing streaming methods and approaches double the human baseline across a subset of 37 Atari games.

Let's share & connect!
