Join us for a deep dive into the realities of scaling Reinforcement Learning for Large Language Models alongside Teodor Poncu, Member of Engineering (Reinforcement Learning) @ poolside, exploring what happens when we push beyond standard training constraints.

The Talk: Navigating Frontier RL: Moving Beyond the Narrow Regime

Current work on RL for LLMs—encompassing algorithms like PPO, GRPO, RLVR, and DAPO—is largely drawn from a narrow, comfortable regime. This typically involves a single domain, small to mid-size models, synchronous loops, clean rewards, and a limited number of steps. But what happens when we scale up?

Frontier RL departs from this standard environment along several critical axes simultaneously, and this presentation explores exactly where those departures actually matter. The talk will cover four key areas of frontier RL: the infrastructure challenges where rollouts dominate iteration time and demand staleness tolerance; the complexities of multi-domain training where heterogeneous tasks make naive batching untenable; the formulation of RL scaling laws as a function of compute; and finally, how to handle the numerical instabilities driven by modern architectures like Mixture of Experts (MoEs).

Join us for an expert case study on how to. replace AWS Firehose, a Managed Cloud Service, with a Stateful Lambda (Without Losing a Record)

What we'll discuss:
Managed services are convenient until the bill arrives. In this case study, we replaced AWS Kinesis Firehose with a purpose-built serverless consumer for a client streaming millions of IoT records per minute into their datalake — taking on full ownership of batching, buffering, file layout, and durability in exchange for a fraction of the cost.

The catch? We built it on AWS Lambda, which is stateless by design. We'll walk through how we made it stateful using Kinesis tumbling windows, how an S3 multipart-upload state machine is carried across invocations, the retry semantics that guarantee zero data loss, and the trade-offs we deliberately made — including the ones where doing the "right" thing would have quietly made things worse.

Ce vom vedea în practică?
Vom porni de la un website WordPress construit pe un stack mai vechi și vom urmări, în timp real, cum un agent AI îl analizează și îl transformă într-o implementare modernă bazată pe Gutenberg (Block Editor).

Vom analiza modul în care AI-ul identifică structura existentă, interpretează conținutul și funcționalitățile unei aplicații și contribuie la procesul de migrare către standardele moderne WordPress. De asemenea, vom evidenția abilitățile și competențele pe care un sistem AI trebuie să le dețină pentru a face posibilă o astfel de tranziție.

Pe parcurs vom discuta:

• cum “vede” un agent AI un website
• cum extrage și organizează informațiile relevante
• cum poate migra conținut și funcționalități între tehnologii diferite
• ce face bine
• unde greșește
• unde este nevoie în continuare de intervenția umană

Vom avea și un live demo, fără scenarii predefinite și fără înregistrări.

Abstract: In highly regulated environments, for example in banking, healthcare, or the public sector, infrastructure management must balance speed, security, and strict compliance requirements.
This presentation explores how GitOps provides a strong operational model for managing infrastructure at scale, turning every change into a version-controlled, auditable event. By using Git as the single source of truth, teams gain full traceability, predictable rollbacks, and consistent policy enforcement, reducing configuration drift while improving reliability and developer autonomy.
We will also cover how GitOps can be applied to both containerised workloads and traditional VM-based infrastructure.
