Tech Events in Barcelona

Barcelona runs Spain's largest tech-event calendar. Software engineering meetups are particularly deep: Python, JavaScript, and the various mobile communities (iOS, Android, cross-platform) all sustain strong monthly rhythms. The product-management and design scenes are active alongside, partly fueled by the concentration of international scaleups and remote teams in the city.

Mobile World Congress is the headline annual event, bringing telecom, mobile, and increasingly AI-in-mobile content to the city each spring. Beyond MWC, Smart City Expo and a growing calendar of AI and data events fill out the conference side. The mix of Catalan, Spanish, and English makes the community event scene unusually diverse.

ReactJS Barcelona x Perk Meetup

Barcelona, 🇪🇸 Spain

A special edition meetup with a very special guest! International speaker Daniel Afonso will talk about the Framework wars and what he learned from them! Don't miss out! 🚀
──────────
18:30: Welcome

18:45 Intro by Host Neciu Dan

19:00 React-Driven Development: Career Lessons from the Framework Wars
Speaker: Daniel Afonso, Senior Developer Advocate at PagerDuty

"No one uses what I built!"

"Why can't I get support to do this?"

"I don't even know why we're using that?"

"Why am I always the one doing everything?"

Sound familiar? The truth is, friction is ever-present in our careers — in our influence, processes, relationships, and even the code we ship. But we're rarely taught how to handle it.

Here's the fun fact: React's history is full of lessons in dealing with friction. From the early skepticism around JSX and the Virtual DOM to the chaos of Server Components, the React team has navigated many friction points you'll face: skeptical stakeholders, unclear messaging, delayed initiatives, and the challenge of getting buy-in.

So let's recap the highlights since its birth to the latest release, understand what React got right (and wrong), and extract practical takeaways you can apply to your career, team, and developer experience initiatives. Whether you're leading a team, building internal tools, or advocating for a technical decision, you'll leave with concrete strategies for driving change, building trust, and shipping initiatives that actually get adopted.

20:00: Drinks and networking!

Barcelona, 🇪🇸 Spain

Hello, fellow DevOps enthusiasts 🤓

On May 7th, we'll meet again for a couple of insightful talks, hosted by Dynatrace!

📍Location: Avda Diagonal 211 - 14th floor, Torre Glòries, Barcelona | https://maps.app.goo.gl/22q31ECkaW7BzDMD8
------

📅 Agenda

  • 18:30 - 18:40 Welcome from the hosts
  • 18:45 - 19:30 "The microservices kool-aid and what that means for SREs"
  • 19:30 - 20:15 "Observability in the AI-Native DevOps Age"
  • 20:15 - 21:00 Networking & Snacks

------

🎤 Talks & Speakers

  • Title: "The microservices kool-aid and what that means for SREs"
  • Speaker: Csaba Almási - Staff Platform Engineer at Neonomics.
  • Duration: 30-45 mins
  • Abstract: For years, the industry has treated microservices as the default architecture for any scaling project, but for SREs, this "Kool-Aid" often comes with a bitter aftertaste. This session moves past the hype to examine the true operational tax of service proliferation, specifically focusing on how fragmented architectures drive up observability costs and create silent performance bottlenecks through network overhead and resource contention. We will dive deep into the technical signals that reveal a "distributed monolith"—a system that shares the complexity of microservices but retains the rigid coupling of a legacy app—and provide a rubric for identifying when an architecture has become more of a liability than an asset.
Beyond the theory, we’ll explore practical guidelines for determining when to actually decompose a monolith and, perhaps more importantly, when to move in the opposite direction. Using real-world examples from the field, we will walk through the architecture and design decisions behind both successful service extractions and strategic consolidations of over-engineered distributed systems. You’ll walk away with a framework for balancing technical depth with operational sanity, ensuring your architecture evolves based on performance data rather than industry trends.
  • About: Csaba Almási is a Staff Infrastructure Engineer at Neonomics, where he focuses on building reliable platforms and maximizing the business impact of observability. With extensive experience in SRE and distributed systems, he specializes in bridging the gap between technical architecture and operational efficiency in the fintech sector.

------

  • Title: "Observability in the AI-Native DevOps Age"
  • Speaker: Andreas (Andi) Grabner - CNCF Ambassador, Book Co-Author, and Fellow DevRel at Dynatrace
  • Duration: 30-45 mins
  • Abstract: AI is here to stay!
The question is: How to make it an efficient DevOps partner for the human to build, test and operate software?
The answer is simple: Just like humans, the AI can use observability to understand and optimize the impact of generated and deployed code and configuration.
In this talk you learn the path through three important lessons on how observability as you know it is changing to become useful for the Human and the AI as we enter the AI-Native Age.
    1. The Observability Primer: “What’s different in observing an app, an AI or a workflow?"
    2. The AI Delivery Lifecycle: “How can my AI becomes better with observability?”
    3. Cost and Impact: “How can we speed up while staying within budget?”
You will walk away and know how to best apply open standards like OpenTelemetry and OpenLLMetry to get insights and optimize your own usage of AI. Whether its for coding, automation or to provide it as a business feature!
  • About: Andreas Grabner has 20+ years of experience as a software developer, tester, and architect, and is an advocate for high-performing cloud-scale applications. He is a CNCF ambassador, a contributor to the CNCF project keptn, a Co-Author of Platform Engineering for Architects, and a Fellow DevRel at Dynatrace.
Andreas is also a regular contributor to the DevOps, Platform Engineering, and Cloud Native communities and a frequent speaker at technology conferences.
In his spare time, you can most likely find him on one of the salsa dancefloors of the world!

I això no ho fa cap algorisme.

Agenda:

18:30 — Obertura de portes

19:00 — Taula rodona:

  • Iñaki Diaz Acedo, Co-founder i Creative Director, Appnormals
  • Maria Morras, professora titular d'Universitat de Literatura Espanyola a la Universitat Pompeu Fabra

Moderada per Daria Shornikova, Brand Storyteller & Communication Strategist

Properament anunciarem nous ponents.

20:00 — Networking

---------------------------------
🎵👤 Track 1
---------------------------------

🎤 Bianca Cheng Teaching AI to Make Music Like I Do
Bianca is a musician, designer, and technologist (formerly at Apple and MIT Media Lab) who approaches engineering with a creative soul. She’ll be sharing her work with HeartMula, a project where she trained models on recordings of her own songs. Learn how she uses AI as a collaborative partner to explore new musical ideas while staying true to her unique creative voice.

🎤 Arnab Dey & Marcel Alcoverro (UNITH) – Building a Real-Time Interactive Avatar Pipeline
What does it actually take to turn an image into a real-time photorealistic human avatar? Arnab (Senior Research Engineer) and Marcel (Head of AI) will walk through the full engineering stack behind a live interactive avatar: from LLM-driven speech synthesis and autoregressive 3D motion generation to Gaussian Splatting rendering streamed at 60 FPS. This talk dives into the research models powering visual avatars, the hard latency trade-offs that shape every design decision, and what production MLOps looks like when your service is a human face.

---------------------------------
🖊️⚙️ Track 2
---------------------------------

🎤 Xesca Alabart (Gluecharm) – Penpot Wizard: Bridging Design and AI
Why do most AI design tools give you code instead of editable design objects? Current tools like v0 or Bolt often leave designers stuck in a "prompt loop" - where even a minor layout tweak requires a new prompt rather than a simple click-and-drag.
Xesca, creator of Penpot Wizard, is pioneering a fundamentally different path. Her talk introduces a Vectorial AI-driven methodology that treats the canvas as a live environment rather than a code-generation target. By designing with AI and Vectorial Design as a structural foundation, Penpot Wizard generates native design objects—shapes, paths, and components—that designers can edit normally. It’s about moving past the prompt-only bottleneck to provide a functional, editable starting point for real-world UX.

🎤 Gabriel Llauradó Queralt (Allianz Technology) - Investigator: A Multi-Agent System That Digs into Tickets
Every Jira ticket hides a trail across code, databases, logs, and half-forgotten Slack decisions. Gabriel built Investigator using LangGraph, with specialist agents for code, DB, Jira, OpenSearch, Confluence, GitHub and Vision — Orchestrated by a Planner, Router, Critic and Evaluator that argue with each other until the evidence holds up. He'll walk through the architecture, the prompts that actually work, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and lessons learned making LLMs reason about real enterprise codebases.

See you soon!

(*) You will greatly help us by providing your DNI/NIE upfront when you RSVP. It is solely used for access to the building and will not be used or stored for any other purpose. In any case, you can also answer with "I want to register onsite". In that case, please show up early at 18:00 to guarantee that the registration can be finished before the event starts.

From Chaos to Marketplace: A Practical Guide to Sharing AI Agent Best Practices at Scale (In English)

AI coding agents are transforming how we build software, but getting your whole engineering organization to benefit from them is harder than it looks. At Kovant, we learned this the hard way, going through four stages of trial and error before landing on something that actually works at scale. In this talk, Kovant's CTO will share the honest story behind that journey and reveal the approach that finally made it click for our teams.

By Dror Asaf, CTO and Co-founder

Claude in Red Team and Blue Team Mode: From Breaking Things to Putting Out Fires (In Spanish)

A practical talk on how to use Claude for reconnaissance and early phases of pentesting (red team), as well as a technical aid for incident analysis (blue team).

This talk explores what it truly means to be a hacker, separating myths from reality, and dives into a hands-on lab using Claude Code, covering setup, context, and operational rules. We introduce MCP as the interface that enables models to interact with tools, and walk through real testing targets and methodologies. Through practical exercises, we demonstrate how to identify web vulnerabilities, interpret Nmap outputs to prioritize risks and define next steps, and finally how Claude Code can also support defensive strategies, showing its value for both red and blue team scenarios.

🎙️ Charlas

Por Dror Asaf, CTO and Co-founder

Scaling AI Agents & Security in the Wild

Barcelona, 🇪🇸 Spain

At InnoIT Consulting, we are delighted to invite you to our upcoming event, organized in collaboration with Claude Code Barcelona, on Wednesday, May 20.

🎙️Claude Code: Scaling AI Agents & Security in the Wild

SUMMARY

We will be joined by Dror Asaf (Co-Founder & CTO, Kovant) and Joaquín Gamiz (Security Engineer, Content Creator & Instructor).

🎙️ From Chaos to Marketplace: A Practical Guide to Sharing AI Agent Best Practices at Scale, Dror Asaf

As AI agents become central to development workflows, the real challenge is no longer adoption — it's scaling them without letting knowledge become siloed within individuals or teams. At Kovant, this challenge drove a progressive evolution: from ad hoc use in individual repositories to a central instructions repository, to a dynamic skills system that adapted to the context per project, ultimately culminating in an internal plugin marketplace that made sharing capabilities intuitive. Along the way, we discovered which simple approaches broke down at scale — and which solutions actually held up.

This talk provides a clear framework for managing agent knowledge based on organizational maturity, along with practical lessons and actionable starting points for any team looking to consolidate scattered knowledge into shared infrastructure.

Marketing X Tech & Business Summit

Barcelona, 🇪🇸 Spain

PANEL #3 (45 min) Commerce Intelligence: AI, Data & Experience Driving Growth

Step4ward BCN: Girls, Tech and Beers: ¡No vuelvas a ir sola a un evento!

Barcelona, 🇪🇸 Spain

Ven a contar tu experiencia mientras tomamos algo.

🗣️Charlas

1️⃣ Navigating the Pitfalls of 3rd Party API Integrations (Charla en inglés)
🎙️ Pola Gershon, Senior .NET Backend Compliance Engineer at eToro
Integrating with 3rd party APIs is rarely as smooth as the documentation suggests. From unexpected timeouts and rate limits to silent failures and breaking schema changes, external dependencies are a primary source of system instability. In this session, we will dive into the most common failure modes when connecting to external services and discuss architectural patterns to build resilient, fault-tolerant systems that protect your core logic from the chaos of the outside world.

🎙️ Iciar Puigpelat, Head of Engineering & Product Manager en Edpuzzle.
