The Evening's Talks and Demos:
- From OU Apprentice to OU Graduate: Building a Career and a Degree at the Same Time
by Tom Prynn - Analyst Developer @ Aspire Systems
Iβll share my journey from Open University degree apprentice to graduate while building a career in software development. Iβll talk about the realities of balancing work, study, and life, the challenges along the way, and the lessons I learned from the experience. - Copilot CLI: Testing AI Agents on a Production Project
by Vicky Howells - Analyst Developer @ Aspire Systems
GitHub Copilot CLI brings AI agents directly into the terminal β but what does that look like on a real, active codebase? This talk covers what GitHub Copilot CLI is, how to configure it, and what it looks like in practice: using it to deliver features from first prompt to PR and running AI-assisted code reviews. - Learning how to host scalable websites on a home-made cluster!
by Carl Sargunar - Umbraco MVP & Technical Director @ Mondo Media
Bringing the cloud to the conference, I'll replicate a scalable, load-balanced environment to host Umbraco containers and demonstrate key concepts around Load Balancing in a fun and interactive way! Using a cluster of mini-computers, a router and some networking magic, we'll re-create a cloud in a mini-cluster and see how it copes with scaling, load-balancing, outages and downtime.
This talk will pull together a small cluster that anyone can build with some old hardware and networking, and with freely available open source software we can put together a highly available stack to host your applications and give you the tools and theory to do the same!

π€ Damien Hatton, Service Design Leader
Damien has spent decades helping large organisations put user needs at the centre of digital transformation, including work with Innovate UK, UKRI, the Intellectual Property Office, the ONS and the Armed Forces. He moved to Cardiff from Australia in 2016 and lives here with his family.
TALK: "The Story of the Award-Winning UKRI Funding Service"
In 2025, the UKRI Funding Service won the IRM UK Award for Outstanding Service Design, the payoff from a seven-year effort to unify nine independent research councils under one grant funding platform. Damien will share how his team worked through entrenched resistance and wildly different ways of working to build something researchers actually wanted to use. If you've ever tried to get several stubborn stakeholders to agree on anything, this one's for you.
π€ Georgia Weekes, Customer Understanding Manager & Agentic AI Engineer at Admiral
Georgia works inside Admiral's GenAI Centre of Excellence, having spent years before that in customer insight, product, Consumer Duty and compliance. She's spent her career turning dense, regulated information into something people can actually use. Outside work, she's a bronze medallist at the Cheerleading World Championships and now judges the sport.
TALK: "The AI Nobody Notices"
Georgia tells the story of FleetwoodChat, an AI communication tool that started as a small experiment and became the most widely adopted AI solution across Admiral. This isn't a talk about prompts or the latest model. It's about one of the biggest hidden costs in any large organisation: unclear communication, and what happens when you actually fix it. Expect honest lessons on governance, trust, and getting a whole business to adopt something new.

Weβll have fantastic prizes up for grabs just for attending β keep an eye out during the evening!

Women in Tech: Leading as Yourself
Who you are, not who you're expected to be
An event for women across every discipline of tech in South Wales, celebrating Women in Tech Week 2026.
If you're a woman in tech from industry, academia, or looking to move into tech, we would love to welcome you. We're bringing together women working in software, hardware, AI, cyber, design, web, data, analytics, and everything in between. Whether you're leading a team, building your career, feeling stuck and ready for what's next, researching, studying, or exploring a move into the industry, this event is built for you.
Join us for inspiring speakers, honest discussion, and real networking, connecting women across every corner of tech and every stage of the journey in South Wales. Women in tech don't always have the support they need, and this event is about strengthening that network, bringing academia, industry, and personal development into one place to help you grow.
This event is exclusively for women working in, or wanting to work in, any area of technology, and is proudly partnering with WeAreTechWomen and Women in TECH-Connect Wales.
What to expect
Speaker sessions, open discussion, and dedicated time to network and connect with other women in tech.
Who this is for
Women in tech, IT, software, hardware, AI, cyber, data, and every other discipline under the tech umbrella. Whether you're an experienced leader, mid career, a graduate, a student, or exploring a move into the industry, you're welcome here.
We want to build connections so you feel less alone in a world that does not always celebrate the success of the women in it.
