Women in Tech Hampshire returns on Wednesday 7th October 2026 as we explore what it means to be Working in the World of Data.

Data is shaping more of the world around us than ever before, and with the rapid growth of AI, the people working with it have an increasingly important role to play. But what is it actually like to work in data today? Where does data sit within the wider world of tech, and what could the next few years bring?

We'll be joined by a brilliant panel of professionals working in data, who'll share their own experiences, what drew them to the field and what they've learned along the way. We'll talk about the skills that really matter, how AI is changing their work, where they see opportunities growing, and why a successful career in data isn't necessarily all about technical skills.

Expect an open and inspiring discussion, plenty of practical advice to take away, and the chance to meet and connect with others from across the Women in Tech Hampshire community.

Meet the panel:

Anna Selway
Anna is a Staff Analytics Engineer at Monzo, and builds resilient, scalable foundations - like data models and pipelines - that provide high-quality trustworthy data to the entire company. She is a technical leader, who leads diverse teams of engineers, data professionals and product teams to deliver great customer service to Monzo customers.
Anna’s journey into data and technology was unconventional. Initially trained as a classical singer, she became fascinated by the intersection of traditional music theory and computer science, specifically the idea of computationally extracting musical features based on traditional theory - such as harmony and rhythm - to calculate and recommend musical similarity.

Dr Kieran Ingram
Kieran is the Head of Data Insights and Analytics at Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and has spent the past 15 years using data and analytics to help organisations tackle complex problems and make better decisions. After completing a PhD in Computational Chemistry, she began her career at the intersection of academia and industry in an engineering consultancy at Imperial College, where she quickly discovered that understanding stakeholders was often just as important as the technical work itself.
She is particularly drawn to complex problems where data, strategy and real-world decision-making collide, and where analytical judgement matters as much as technical expertise.

Join us for a relaxed, informal lunch as part of Women in Tech Week 2026, the UK's national movement (proudly powered by WeAreTechWomen) celebrating and championing the progression of women in technology. Supported by Desk2Educate and StartUp Disruptors.

This session draws on the Breaking Barriers theme — exploring the systemic obstacles women in tech and engineering face, and the lived experience of navigating and overcoming them.

Over lunch, we'll hear directly from two women who've spent their careers in tech and engineering, in conversation about:

• What it's actually been like to build a long career in a male-dominated industry

• The workplace culture and bias barriers they've navigated — and what's changed (and hasn't)

• What it takes to drive change from within, rather than around, the industry

Featuring speakers Becky Lodge and Natalie Haigh, this is a chance to connect, ask questions, and leave with honest insight — not just inspiration.

This event is free to attend for all women working in, or interested in, the tech industry.

Speaker Panel:

Becky Lodge - Desk2Educate AI (Edtech) Tech Founder/Consultant

Becky Lodge has spent her career in tech and engineering, moving from a Sales Director-level role into founding her consulting practice in 2015, where she consults on regional innovation, SME growth, and digital transformation with universities and SMEs. She is degree and CIM qualified and holds a Masters-level AI Leadership qualification (2025), and her strategic advisory practice (beckylodge.co.uk) focuses on university, public sector, and innovation ecosystem design.

Becky was recognised on Women in Data's 'Twenty in Data and Tech' 2025 and Computer Weekly's Top 50 Influential UK Tech Leaders, and has worked directly with the UK Tech APPG and Parliament on advancing the tech industry. She is neurodiverse and in her early career worked in Formula One and radio broadcast software. She is also the founder of Desk2Educate an award winning edtech AI platform that helps NEET and SEND youngsters and adults into self-employment and employment.

Natalie Haigh - Her Future In AI CIC

Natalie Haigh is a technology strategist and entrepreneur with a Computer Science and Management degree from the University of London.

She ran her own software development company for 14 years before moving into her current role as a fractional CTO and business mentor at Mentoring Entrepreneurs, supporting purpose-driven founders to grow through creative tech and meaningful relationships. Natalie hosts the weekly The Technology Show on Voice FM , and was named on Computer Weekly's Most Influential Women in the UK Tech 2026 longlist.

Natalie co-founded Her Future in AI with Charlie Ruttle. Natalie is neurodiverse and has overcome multiple barriers to succeed as a coder and tech designer and advocate.

Charlie is an AI literacy advocate, speaker and founder of Her Future in AI.

She helps small businesses understand and use AI confidently, responsibly and without the jargon. As a neurodivergent woman working in technology, Charlie is passionate about making AI education more inclusive, accessible and human-centred.

With a practical, people-first approach to technology, Charlie brings honest conversations, curiosity and lived experience to the rapidly changing world of AI. She champions greater inclusion in tech and believes everyone deserves the knowledge and confidence to participate in shaping our AI-powered future.

WeAreTechWomen is proud to present the third annual UK Women in Tech Week, taking place from October 12th to 16th. Once again, the week aligns with Ada Lovelace Day, which falls on the second Tuesday of October. This nationwide initiative brings together a vibrant line-up of virtual and in-person events celebrating the impact of women across the tech industry.

In partnership with leading organisations and Women in Tech networks, the week will offer inspiring panels, practical workshops, and meaningful networking opportunities. Through our website, attendees can easily book their spots for these events.

Andy Stanford-Clark is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, a Master Inventor with more than 45 patents, the leader of IBM's Quantum Ambassador programme in the UK, and an all-round IoT evangelist. He is the former CTO for IBM in the UK and Ireland.

IoT is at the heart of everything Andy does, and he has worked on Internet of Things technologies for more than 25 years, long before the term came into common use. One of Andy’s most significant achievements is as the co-inventor of MQTT, an open-source communications protocol that offers a scalable and cost-effective way to connect devices over the Internet, making it perfect for the Internet of Things. Originally designed for the oil and gas industry, this ISO-standard protocol is now widely used across all application areas of IoT. It’s also used by social media companies, so if you’ve ever used Facebook Messenger, you’ve used MQTT.

Outside of the workplace, Andy has numerous personal IoT projects on the go. These include managing his own 16th century smart home, bringing dinosaurs back to life, making sure antelopes stay warm at night, and making the Isle of Wight ferries tweet - the latter beginning as an IoT hack to kill time while waiting for a ferry that then took a quite unexpected turn.

More recently he has coined the term "Physical Digital Twin", and has made use of this in various applications from energy monitoring, to weather forecasting, to monitoring an autonomous ship sailing itself across the Atlantic ocean.

Andy holds a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics and a PhD in parallel computing from the University of East Anglia. He’s a visiting professor at the University of Newcastle, an honorary professor at the University of East Anglia, and an adjunct professor at the University of Southampton. He’s a Fellow of the British Computer Society, and makes regular media appearances and gives conference talks about IoT.
