Rust: FFI with C++, and Intro to Async
About this event
We meet at Zrch office, Kanalveien 60.
There will be pizza at 17:00.
We start with presentations around 17:30-17:45
Talks:
Paul will give a presentation about
FFI 101: Getting Rust and C++ to Talk
Ever wondered how Rust can call code written in C or C++, or the other way around? This talk is a gentle introduction to FFI (Foreign Function Interface): what it is, why it exists, and how it works at a basic level with a little demo. We'll also look at the global landscape of Rust/C++ interop using different approaches.
Then, Michael will talk about
Async Rust: An introduction based on embassy
Async Rust has a reputation for being hard to learn. In this talk, we look at how it actually works, with some comparisons to JavaScript along the way. Our main example is embassy, a crate that lets you write high-level async code that runs on a microcontroller. If that sounds like a contradiction, this talk explains why it isn't.
Please ping me if you want to give a talk, I would prefer to have a something about a hobby project
You can present in either English or Norwegian.
We wrap up between 19:00 and 20:00, depending on questions and pizza.
