Semi-Conductors & Me? Insights from Ireland & Germany - Berlin Science Week
About this event
Explore why the semi-conductor industry matters, what has enabled its remarkable development across the globe, and what the future holds!
The Embassy of Ireland in Berlin is delighted to once again take part in Berlin Science Week. This year, the Embassy is collaborating with Research Ireland, Ireland's national competitive research and innovation funding agency, to explore semi-conductors and the critical role they play in our everyday lives.
Why semi-conductors? Semi-conductors and related technology are increasingly being mentioned in news bulletins across the world. But what are they, what do they do, how do they impact our lives?
This event is an opportunity to hear directly from leading Irish, German and European experts about why the semiconductor industry matters, what has enabled its remarkable global development, and what the future will bring.
Ireland and Saxony in Germany are internationally renowned semi-conductor hubs. From Dresden to Dublin, from silicon to scaling, there is much to learn from the Irish, German and European experiences of semiconductors across industry, government and academia.
Ireland's Tyndall National Institute is a leading European research centre based in County Cork. Ireland is home to 14 top semiconductor companies, including Analog Devices, Infineon and Intel. In June 2026, with the support of Research Ireland, Rinn Semiconductors was founded. It is Ireland’s newest national research centre advancing next-generation semiconductor technologies through heterogeneous integration, chiplet-based architectures, and advanced packaging.
In Germany, Silicon Saxony is Europe’s largest microelectronics and semiconductor cluster, located primarily around the city of Dresden. The association is also responsible for organising the annual 'Silicon Saxony Days', one of Europe's leading high tech and networking events for the semiconductor and advanced technology ecosystem.
SEMI Europe is the European arm of SEMI, the global industry association connecting companies and professionals across the semiconductor and electronics design and manufacturing supply chain.
Come along to hear from our international panel of experts about the technology of the present and the future.
Open to guests of all ages and levels of knowledge!
Please note that photo ID will be required for entry. The Embassy retains the right of admission.
