Sustainable use of AI : From 2026 and Beyond

Bringing diverse stakeholders together to explore practical and viable approaches to sustainable AI use across sectors.

This conference is co-organized by the Geneva Health Forum (GHF), and the Geneva Digital Health Hub (gdhub) and will be hosted during the GHF 2026 edition under the theme New Forms of Collaboration in Global Health.

Building on the gdhub and GHF experience in connecting knowledge, people anpolicy across academia, international organisations, NGOs and the private sector, it will examine how new forms of collaboration can support responsible and sustainable AI use in global health.

This conference addresses the environmental cost of artificial intelligence in scientific research and healthcare.

As AI adoption has accelerated across sectors, so have the concernsabout the resources these systems consume, the waste they generate, and the burden places on the communities that host them.

Governance discussions have not kept pace. Where they exist, they tend to be sector-specific: policymakers, AI developers and the researchers and clinicians who use these tools rarely address th equestion together.

The result is a gap between governance frameworks and the conditions under which AI is deployed, and it is in that gap that sustainable AI use fails to translate into practice.
