The Role of English Universities in Strengthening AWS Communities in Africa

This session will explore the impact English universities have made in supporting AWS communities across Africa through knowledge sharing, cloud computing education, research collaboration, mentorship, and technology-driven innovation. It will examine how existing university partnerships and AWS community initiatives have contributed to developing technical talent, supporting startups, empowering developers, and expanding access to global cloud technologies.

Building on these achievements, the session will identify practical actions to deepen this impact, including establishing joint cloud innovation labs, expanding AWS certification and hands-on training opportunities, connecting African students and developers with university researchers and industry mentors, and supporting startups to develop and scale solutions to local challenges.

It will also explore opportunities for collaborative research, hackathons, community-led projects, and stronger university–industry partnerships that translate academic knowledge into real-world impact.
