Software Engineering Events in Leeds

This is the widest category on Brainberg, because software engineering itself spans a huge range of events: language user groups (Python, Rust, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Elixir, Ruby, Zig), framework communities (React, Svelte, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, NixOS), backend architecture tracks, testing and QA tracks (ISTQB certification courses, mutation testing, test-automation workshops), refactoring and DDD circles, hackathons, and the long tail of "thoughtful engineering" meetups that don't fit neatly under any specific stack.

This page narrows the Leeds calendar to Software Engineering events. It's a subset of United Kingdom's wider tech-event schedule, useful when you want something specific to go to in the city this month.

Poornima Nayar - Beyond Pub/Sub - Advanced Messaging Patterns

Leeds, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

LeedsSharp are proud to present Poornima Nayar in "Beyond Pub/Sub - Advanced Messaging Patterns"

Access Details Please go to the Enablis offices, they are on the first floor of the building, both front door and office doors should be open. If there is a problem then press the buzzer. We will meet at 6pm for pizza and drinks, the talks will start at 6.45. Some of us go to the either the brewery tap or editors draft pub afterwards at 8pm (vote to be taken).

Abstract:

Publish/subscribe is often the first pattern teams adopt when moving toward asynchronous, message-based architectures. It’s a powerful way to decouple services and enable extensibility—but on its own, pub/sub doesn’t solve many of the problems that show up in real distributed systems, such as data loss, broken workflows, or systems that struggle under load.

In this session, we’ll go beyond basic pub/sub to explore a set of proven messaging patterns used in production. We’ll look at how the Outbox pattern prevents message loss during failures, how sagas coordinate long-running workflows without distributed transactions, how scatter-gather accelerates work through parallelism, and how competing consumers enable elastic throughput when demand spikes. Along the way, we’ll also examine essential operational safeguards such as retries, dead-letter queues, back pressure, and idempotency.

By the end of the talk, you’ll understand when and how to apply these patterns to build systems that are not just decoupled, but resilient, scalable, and designed to handle failure gracefully from day one.

Please note the change of venue!

Welcome to our July 2026 meetup hosted by Enablis. Please see the directions provided on this page.

We are pleased to welcome Shubhangi Goyal with her talk "Context driven AI Agents".

If you would like to volunteer as a speaker for our upcoming meetups, please reach out to us at lds@jumpingrivers.com.

Schedule

18:00--18:45h: Refreshments (Food served on first come first served basis)

18:45--18:50h: Welcome

18:50--20:00h: Shubhangi Goyal, Data & AI Lead
Context driven AI Agents

In this session, I will explore how agents are built and use dynamic context to execute complex tasks and deliver real value. This also
includes using context engineering to move beyond single prompt based
interactions. The key takeaways are:

- Context engineering, manage memory tools, and tasks for adaptive behaviour.
- Agent architecture, LLMs and feedback loops.
- Prompt engineering into the larger system.
- Real world use case and common pitfalls when deploying AI agents.
