Software Engineering Events in Oslo
This is the widest category on Brainberg, because software engineering itself spans a huge range of events: language user groups (Python, Rust, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Elixir, Ruby, Zig), framework communities (React, Svelte, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, NixOS), backend architecture tracks, testing and QA tracks (ISTQB certification courses, mutation testing, test-automation workshops), refactoring and DDD circles, hackathons, and the long tail of "thoughtful engineering" meetups that don't fit neatly under any specific stack.
This page narrows the Oslo calendar to Software Engineering events. It's a subset of Norway's wider tech-event schedule, useful when you want something specific to go to in the city this month.

Shopbot CNC theory and practical
Oslo, 🇳🇴 Norway
This course is necessary for new users of the Shopbot CNC at Bitraf to establish baseline knowledge & safety standards that everyone can expect from each other.
It will be held in English.
This course is fills up quickly - be the person that signs up and takes the opportunity to join a course seriously. If you don't turn up, you take away the opportunity to learn from someone else. Book the course time & date in your calendar, even if you're on the waiting list. It is very common to get bumped up as the course date/time approaches.
Signing up to the wait list means you take on the responsibility to check the event daily (even on the day of/hours before the event) and the possibility to turn up at short notice. If you know it's likely you won't have the time anymore, please change your RSVP to 'no' to remove yourself from the wait list as soon as you're aware.
Don't cancel last minute

Lasercutter: basic use and safety
Oslo, 🇳🇴 Norway
This course is for paying Bitraf members only. If you are not a paying member, sign up for membership at https://bitraf.no/# before the course.
If you want to make precise cuts in thin materials, a laser cutter may just be what you need.
Bitraf has 2 laser cutters capable of cutting lines and engraving patterns in wood, plastic, fabric, leather and more. It's entirely possible to do dangerous and harmful things with the cutter. Therefore it is mandatory to complete a laser-course at Bitraf before using the machinery. During this course we will look at the whole process from a simple and quick design project to a finished object.
To create cutting files you can use programs such as Illustrator, Inkscape, Fusion 360 or Rhino. Both Inkscape and Fusion can be installed for free; https://inkscape.org/en, https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/overview. For Fusion, sign up for «Start-Up or Educational licensing». During this course we will use Bitraf's PC so bringing your own laptop is optional.
Documentation for the laser can be found at

The software we use on the lasers is called Lightburn.

Please look through the plethora of tutorials available on youtube and their website - you can download the software to your own laptop before the course too.
The course will be in English,
• These courses tend to fill up. If you realize that you can't attend after signing up, please RSVP 'no' to sign off asap, so that someone else can take your spot.
• The course is in the lab (tables next to the kitchen). You are welcome to come earlier to grab coffee etc before the course starts. Be sure to be on time, if you come late as you will miss important information essential to complete the course, and not get certified to use the machines.
• Because of high expenses and running costs for the laser, you need to be a paying member of Bitraf to attend this course. Please join Bitraf at http://bitraf.no/join before signing up to the course.
• The course starts with a group theory presentation (about 45 min), then practical training that can take up to an hour each. You will be added to the 'TOOLS' tool access system at this point, meaning you will have everything you need to start using the lasers straight away. You are free to leave after the practical part.
Please join Bitraf Slack workspace and register for the bitraf google calendar before attending the course:
