Tech Events in Brussels

Brussels is unusually weighted toward tech-policy and open-source events because of the EU institutions concentrated in the city. FOSDEM each February is one of the largest open-source conferences in the world and draws tens of thousands. Around it, the calendar is full of AI-governance, data-protection, cybersecurity-policy, and platform-regulation events that reflect Brussels' role as the policy capital of European tech.

Beyond policy, there's a healthy community meetup scene across software engineering, DevOps, and data. Less dense than Paris or London, but with several very active monthly groups. English dominates the international events; local community events run across French, Dutch, and English.

AI & Digital Sovereignty Summit Brussels (TransformIT Europe)

Brussels, 🇧🇪 Belgium

Hi everyone! As your new group organizer, I wanted to hit the ground running by securing a massive perk for our community.
I’ve partnered with the TransformIT Europe Conference to get our members an exclusive 50% discount for their summit in Brussels this May. This is a high-level event featuring exclusive speakers from:

  • United Nations
  • European Commission
  • Google
  • T-Systems
    ... and many more.

🎙 The Headliners:

  • Dusan Chrenek (European Commission): Principal Adviser for the Digital Green Transition—at the heart of how the EU balances AI growth with climate goals.
  • Griet Cattaert (United Nations): Discussing how technology moves beyond "compliance" to become a competitive advantage for sustainability.
  • Industry Heavyweights: Experts from Google, T-Systems, and many more on sovereign cloud infrastructure and industrial AI.

Why this matters for us: We usually talk about models and code, but this event focuses on the sovereignty and infrastructure side—how Europe can actually scale AI sustainably. It’s a great chance for us to move from "how it works" to "how it transforms society."

Key Topics:

  • Digital Sovereignty: Europe’s sovereign IT infrastructure.
  • AI for ESG & GreenTech: AI for sustainability and the circular economy.
  • Smart Cities: Real-world IoT and Smart Building case studies.

🎟 Discount & Registration – 50% Discount for members of this Meetup Group
The 1-day pass is usually €60 and the 2-day pass is €100. We have secured a limited number of unique codes that let our members get tickets for less than half price.

Workshop: Anonymisation at the Crossroads of EU Digital Regulations

Brussels, 🇧🇪 Belgium

Workshop on anonymisation and data regulation, highlighting preliminary EC findings against Alphabet on Article 6(11) DMA compliance.

This workshop will examine the growing centrality of anonymisation in EU digital regulation, with particular focus on the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Recent enforcement developments , most notably the European Commission's preliminary findings on the sharing of search data, confirm that anonymisation and re-identification risk now lie at the heart of the policy debate.

The workshop's first objective is to understand how the Commission seeks to combine technical and contractual controls, why it appears to favour a heuristics-based approach over established anonymisation models such as k-anonymity, and what alternative approaches could offer in terms of privacy guarantees and utility preservation.

The discussion will then situate these developments within the broader regulatory context of the proposed Digital Omnibus package, which includes amendments to the definition of personal data and, through Article 41a, seeks to recalibrate the institutional balance between the Commission and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).

Against this backdrop, the workshop asks whether the EU is witnessing the emergence of a new governance model for anonymisation, one shaped less by horizontal instruments than by sector-specific measures. Workshop participants will discuss the implications of these trends for privacy protection and regulatory coherence across the Union.
