HashiCorp UG Belgium: Summer Edition - Leuven

Leuven, 🇧đŸ‡Ș Belgium

It's been awhile.. But it's time for the HashiCorp Summer edition, and this time Dataroots is hosting us.

On top of that, Rob Barnes is joining us again, so good reason to clear your evening.

We're getting the HashiCorp community back together for an evening of talks, food, and time to catch up, with two sessions on the agenda.

On the program

Is your Terraform code SOLID? Marwen Hmidi

We treat Terraform as “just configuration”, and our infrastructure pays the price. Spaghetti modules, god-objects masquerading as root configs, hidden coupling between resources, and changes that ripple unpredictably across environments. Sound familiar? In this talk, we’ll apply battle-tested software engineering principles directly to Terraform. Walk away with concrete patterns to write Terraform code that’s testable, composable, and actually pleasant to maintain. Speaker: Marwen Hmidi

Reproducible Developer Environments with Jumppad - Rob Barnes

Reproducibility is something we have largely solved at the infrastructure layer, but it often stops there. Developers are still expected to follow setup guides, run scripts, and debug issues just to get a working environment.

This talk looks at reproducibility from a developer perspective. What does it take to ensure that anyone on the team can spin up the same working system every time without relying on documentation or tribal knowledge.

Using Jumppad, I will demonstrate how to define and run a complete environment that includes HashiCorp Nomad, HashiCorp Vault, and a sample application. We will walk through creating the environment, using it as a developer would, and tearing it down again.

The focus is on practical patterns that improve developer experience and reduce the time it takes to get started with a system.

AI Talk | The public sector has an AI Strategy. Does it have the skills?

Brussels, 🇧đŸ‡Ș Belgium

Join us on Thursday 3 September at 17:30 to discuss whether the public sector has the skills to deliver its AI ambitions.

Join us on Thursday 3 September at 17:30 for an evening built around a question every public institution is grappling with right now: if there is an AI strategy, do we also have the workforce to deliver it?

FARI, CEPS and VUCABLE join forces for this session, marking the local launch of MagiX, a new Master's programme in digital governance and transformation, AI and data, and human centred design for the public sector. Expect an informal, conversational evening, with plenty of room for your own questions and a proper networking moment to close.

This in person event takes place on Thursday 3 September at 17:30 in the FARI Test & Experience Centre (Cantersteen 16, 1000 Brussels).

Invited guest : Amy Carmichael works with the Ada Lovelace Institute, researching how public institutions in the UK adopt data and AI in practice, with a recent focus on local authorities and social care. Her work looks closely at how frontline services take on new technology, and where oversight keeps pace with adoption, and where it does not.

Description of the session : The evening opens with a keynote grounded in direct research into AI adoption in UK local government and social care, touching on the pace of oversight relative to tool rollout, and the practical realities frontline staff face day to day.

A moderated discussion with FARI, CEPS and VUCABLE then widens the conversation to what a real skills gap looks like in public administration, how AI adoption can narrow or widen existing inequalities between institutions and staff, and what the future of public sector work looks like as these tools become part of daily practice.

These questions show up across every layer of digital government right now: through procurement, design processes, frontline services adopting new tools faster than the safeguards built to govern them, or data foundations too patchy to support what is being asked of them.

Is this for you? This session is for you if you work in or with government and feel the distance between the AI strategy on the shelf and the AI actually happening on the ground. It is just as much for you if you are building toward that kind of work, whether already inside an institution or on the way there. Public sector professionals, digital transformation leads, and anyone developing these skills are welcome to join.

A balanced mix of learning and networking: the evening closes with an open Q&A, plenty of room for your own questions, and informal networking with the speaker and the three partner organisations over drinks.

This event is free to attend, but registration is compulsory. It is organized by FARI, CEPS and VUCABLE.

Summary

  • Time: Thursday, September 3, 17:30–19:00
  • Place: FARI Test & Experience Centre, Cantersteen 16, 1000 Brussels
  • Speaker: Amy Carmichael (Ada Lovelace Institute)
  • Networking: Drinks & snacks after the session
  • Cost: Free to attend
  • Target Audience: Public sector professionals, policymakers, GovTech practitioners, researchers, students, and AI enthusiasts

CoderDojo Borgerhout - 12/09/2026

Antwerp, 🇧đŸ‡Ș Belgium

Join us on 15/04/1994 at CoderDojo Borgerhout for some fun coding and tech creativity in person!

Over CoderDojo

CoderDojo heeft daarom maar één regel: "Above all: be cool!".

Praktische informatie

Huidige trajecten:

Workshop 'Control-Resist-Delete: activisme & surveillance'

(English below)

Inschrijven: Registratie is verplicht

-------------------------

Technology is evolving at breakneck speed, bringing new dangers along with it. What happens when AI-powered street cameras scan our faces and track our every move? And what if our personal data is weaponized against us. For instance, when participating in a protest?

On Saturday 17th of october 2026, Kif Kif is organizing the workshop 'Control-Resist-Delete'. Together with the participants, we will explore how marginalized communities and activists are targeted by oppressive technologies. We will discuss how to protect one another and how to build collective resistance. The workshop focuses on mutual exchange and co-creating strategies to navigate and counter oppressive tech.

About the Facilitators

- Igor Ćœivković is a policy officer at Kif Kif specializing in online racism, with a focus on AI, data, and racial justice. His current work centers on surveillance, militarization, and Big Tech.

- Sanne Stevens is the co-founder of the Justice, Equity and Technology Project, a collective dedicated to building networks that address the impact of data-driven technology on marginalized communities across Europe.
