Welcome to edition 15 of the Generative AI Belgium Meetup! 🚀

This time, we look at how AI is changing the Way We Work.

For a long time, work was built around a simple exchange: time for money. You showed up, spent hours on tasks, and value was measured by effort, output, and expertise.

Generative AI is starting to question that model.

AI agents are no longer just tools for writing better emails. They are entering workflows, taking over tasks, writing code, coordinating information, and becoming part of how teams operate.

Tools like Claude Cowork & Microsoft Copilot are already omnipresent in our daily work and expectations to use them are rising quickly.

At the same time, robotics is making the story physical again. Machines are not only thinking with us behind a screen. They are starting to move through factories, labs, hospitals, warehouses, and most importantly homes.

This raises a new question: what happens when AI becomes both a colleague in your browser and a body in the room?

In this edition, we are inviting:

  • Startups building the tools, agents, and workflows that make this future happen

  • Researchers exploring human-machine interfaces and robotics

  • A broader discussion on what a “union of the future” could look like when work is shared between people, software agents, and machines

Let's see what meaningful work, when intelligence becomes abundant.

Join us on May 26th!

Cross-Fertilization Workshop: High-Speed Optical Modulators

Ghent, 🇧🇪 Belgium

Bringing together different projects working on high-speed optical modulators to give you the latest updates on the technology.

ePIXfab is organizing a new Cross-Fertilization Workshop on High-Speed Optical Modulators, bringing together several European research projects working on related photonic technologies.

Cross-fertilization workshops are a recurring format organized by ePIXfab to connect researchers, engineers, and industry partners working on complementary aspects in photonics. These events bring together a specialized audience, enabling in-depth technical discussions that broaden perspectives on the technology and its potential applications while also fostering new collaborations between European partners. Previous editions have focused on topics such as Heterogeneous Integration and Applications in Quantum Photonics.

This new edition focuses on high-speed optical modulators, a key enabling technology in integrated photonics. The workshop will explore developments and challenges across the entire technology chain, including fabrication, integration, characterization, packaging, and applications. The event is co-organized by several EU-funded projects active in this area including PHORMIC, PhotonixFAB, DYNAMOS, PATTERN, STARLIGHT, LOLIPOP, and SPRINTER.

This workshop can be attended in person or online.

What to Expect

The workshop will feature a two-day technical program covering the full ecosystem of high-speed optical modulator technologies. Key topics include:

  • Presentations from EU research projects working on high-speed modulator technologies
  • Material platforms for modulators
  • Heterogeneous integration approaches
  • Packaging of high-speed photonic devices
  • EDA tools
  • Measurement techniques and system-level evaluation
  • Applications of high-speed modulators across photonics systems
Who Is It For?

This workshop is intended for professionals and researchers involved in integrated photonics and high-speed optical systems, including:

  • Researchers and students from universities and research institutes
  • PIC designers, application specialists, and technology developers from the photonics industry

The event aims to bring together over 100 participants from both academia and industry, creating a focused environment for technical exchange and networking.
