Let’s Talk Low Code: From Monolith to Modular with Mendix & .NET

Zagreb, 🇭🇷 Croatia

Join us at Valcon Croatia in Zagreb for our first Let’s Talk Low Code meetup, powered by Mendix.
This time, we’re going behind the scenes of a real enterprise case study: From Monolith to Modular: Building SALTA’s Digital Landscape with Mendix & .NET.
We’ll explore how SALTA’s application landscape evolved from the original monolithic Olympus application towards a modular ecosystem of specialised Mendix applications and .NET APIs.
Why move away from a monolith? How do you decide what belongs in Mendix and what belongs in .NET? How can Low Code and traditional development complement each other within a complex enterprise architecture? And what can we learn from years of building and evolving such a landscape?

REGISTRATION-READ BELOW!
Important: As this is an official Mendix powered meetup, all registrations must be completed through the official Mendix Partners event page.

👉 Register for the meetup on the official Mendix page

Everyone is welcome to register. You do not need to have a Mendix account to attend. Simply follow the registration link above and complete the registration process with or without a Mendix account.

RubyZG October Meetup @ DECODE

Zagreb, 🇭🇷 Croatia

Hi everyone!

Join us for the RubyZG October Meetup. We've got a low level theme this time: We'll hear how far Ruby's new concurrency and parallelism tools can be stretched, and how to run Ruby apps on AWS Lambda without maintaining a server.

This event is hosted by DECODE who will be providing pizza and refreshments after the formal part of the meetup. Btw, they are hiring, so be sure to check their open positions.
For those coming by car, there is no dedicated parking but there should be plenty of parking at that time in the street in front of the building.
See you at DECODE!

Are We Fast Yet? Ractors, Fibers, and how far can we stretch it
by Luka Bak
Ractors give Ruby real parallelism, the Fiber scheduler gives it Go-like concurrency. So are we fast yet? I've built the same everyday network service in Ruby and once more in Go, and charted how far one Ruby process can be stretched today, what breaks along the way, and what a few more years might buy us.

Running Ruby apps on AWS Lambda
by Oleg Pustovit
You can run a Rails or Sinatra app on AWS Lambda without maintaining a VM. I'll show how that works through Rack and adapters such as Lamby, then walk through deploying a small app. I'll also show how Ruby code can use AWS services to handle file uploads in S3, process jobs through SQS, and run scheduled tasks. We'll look at what gets awkward, including cold starts and database connections, and when I'd stick with a regular server.

You'll also see how salaries have changed since 2022 and how you can compare yourself with the market on Tabu.

Electron framework: securing a cross-platform desktop app on machines you don't control
by Vitaliy Yunikov (Lead engineer @ Quill and Founder of AudioRoute)

Electron is the fastest way to put a web app on the desktop. The moment you ship it, you're running a browser with filesystem access and full OS access on machines you don't control - sometimes behind security policies you aren't even aware of. This talk covers the experience of a team running on tens of thousands of machines daily, across three operating systems, two CPU architectures, and whatever hardware, OS version and security software each user happens to have. It covers two things the documentation doesn't: how to run the application safely - especially when it executes remote code - and how to find out what's actually happening out there, when you have no server logs, no debugger and nobody to ask. All of it gathered from years of production experience, not best-practice lists.

Hope to see you there!

Deskilling, never-skilling or reskilling? This is not a question.

Zagreb, 🇭🇷 Croatia

Uz pravilan pristup i odgovarajuće vještine, generativna umjetna inteligencija može postati vrhunski osobni mentor. Može nam pomoći u otkrivanju novih spoznaja, rješavanju problema i širenju intelektualnih horizonata.
To je, u najkraćim crtama, poruka i preporuka moje knjige “In Search of Knowledge: Reskilling for Generative AI“ objavljene početkom 2005 godine.
I ponuditi neke praktične, jednostavne tehnike prevladavanja (I preživljavanja).

Ports & Adapters

Zagreb, 🇭🇷 Croatia

🇭🇷 Svi želimo imati kvalitetniji softver. Treba imati automatske testove! Međutim, softver se neki puta *opire* automatskim testovima. Na ovom okupljanju ćemo objasniti arhitekturu softvera koja olakšava testiranje softvera a donosi i druge pogodnosti.

🇬🇧 We all want to have higher-quality software. We need automated tests! However, sometimes software resists automated testing. At this meetup, we’ll explain a software architecture that makes software easier to test while bringing other benefits as well.
