Summer is over, and we're kicking off a new RubyZG season with something a little different: a casual RubyZG cafe drinkup! ☕️

This time there won't be any prepared talks or a formal agenda. Instead, we'll keep things relaxed: grab a drink, meet fellow Rubyists, and talk about whatever you've been working on lately.

You're also very welcome to bring your laptop and show us something you're working on, a Ruby trick you learned recently, or a gem you discovered. No need to prepare for this, and it's ok to keep it short.

We'll be meeting at Canopy Cafe on Branimirova street.

Na osamnaestom Engineering Management meetupu razgovarat ćemo o tome kako izgleda vođenje inženjerskih timova u različitim okruženjima, gdje AI već donosi stvarnu vrijednost te koje su njegove granice. Join us for BipTalks Engineering Meetup, where we’ll explore how engineering decisions on a global scale create real business impact.

Infobip sends billions of messages around the world every month. At that scale, trivial problems can burn thousands of CPU cores, and even a one-line optimization can create real savings. Using traffic classification as a concrete example, we’ll show how we achieved results comparable to LLMs, without the LLM price tag: by batching work so the expensive models run once per pattern, then serving fast classifications in real time with precise, fundamentals-first engineering that dramatically reduced compute costs while keeping latency below a millisecond. It’s a look at what “global scale” really means for engineers and why solid fundamentals are still the most effective tool in the AI era.

• Real-world insights from production — This talk is grounded in hands-on experience. No theory for theory’s sake, only what actually worked.

🎤 Speaker: Renato Jurišić, Senior Software Engineer @ Infobip

Renato is a Senior Software Engineer at Infobip working on Anam Protect, a solution that helps protect more than a billion mobile subscribers worldwide from fraudulent SMS traffic. His work spans AI classification systems, critical infrastructure, and large-scale fraud detection, and he is often the go-to person in his team for advice on applying AI.
He earned his master’s degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb, graduating summa cum laude.
