Tech Events in Munich

Munich's tech-event calendar is shaped by the city's industries: automotive, aerospace, and engineering-heavy enterprise. Embedded, robotics, and mobility events are unusually strong here, as are engineering leadership and enterprise-architecture communities. BMW, Siemens, Airbus, and their extended supplier ecosystems keep the hardware-and-systems side of the calendar busy.

On the software side, there's a solid rhythm of Python, Go, Java, and cloud meetups, and the city has been growing a reputation on AI-applied events via both Munich-based startups and the TU MĂŒnchen ecosystem. TUM's research side adds a thin but real ML-research meetup layer. Oktoberfest season aside, evening meetups run year-round in the city center and around Munich Riem.

🔎 First Talk: “The Data Science Project – Perspectives from the Legal Industry and Science”
Speakers: Andreas Stephan and Matthias Aßenmacher
Time: 19:00 – 19:40
Abstract
In the abstract, the core data science project often seems remarkably similar whether you're working on a product or on an academic research project. In this talk we compare multiple projects from the viewpoints of industry and academia. Specifically, we compare a retrieval augmented generation (RAG) project in the legal industry, an applied research project using RAG to analyze market research papers, and a pure research study investigating the LLM-as-a-Judge paradigm. In the process we will discuss similarities and differences in problem definitions, methodologies, and evaluations.

About the Speakers
Dr. Andreas Stephan is Tech Lead at the legal tech startup LDA - Legal Data Analytics GmbH. He holds a PhD in NLP from the University of Vienna and brings industry experience from his previous work as an NLP data scientist in the finance and insurance sectors

Dr. Matthias Aßenmacher postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Statistical Learning and Data Science at LMU and the NFDI Consortium for Business, Economic and Related Data (BERD@NFDI). He focuses on teaching NLP and works on a diverse set of NLP Applications, including Uncertainty/Subjectivity, NLP for historical/low-resource languages, Bias in NLP, and NLG/Decoding from LLMs.

🔎 Second Talk: “TBA”
Speaker: Andrei Beliankou
Time: 19:50 – 20:30
Abstract
Moving a RAG system from prototype to production quickly reveals challenges that go far beyond prompt design and retrieval quality. In this talk, Andrei shares practical lessons learned from operating RAG systems in real environments, with a focus on MLOps, system availability, redundancy, observability, and reliability. He will discuss common failure modes, trade-offs in architecture and deployment, and what it takes to build systems that remain stable, explainable, and cost-efficient under real-world constraints.

About the Speaker
Andrei Beliankou is Technical Lead Data & AI at E.ON Digital Technology in the Energy Retail Team. As part of the E.ON GenAI Core team, he has been developing generative AI solutions for different business units across the organization. His work focuses on areas such as multilingual search, LLMs, agentic RAG, and knowledge graphs. He describes himself, unofficially, as a software engineer with a strong data affinity, writing both code and texts.

🍮 Food & Networking
Before the talks food & drinks will be served. After the talks, we will continue with drinks, and networking. As usual, this is a chance to connect with others from the local NLP, data science, and GenAI community across academia and industry.

Diskutiert werden u. a.:

  • Vier Modellwelten: Bank‑Research, Beratungs‑Research, PropTech‑KI‑Pipeline, wissenschaftliche Datenstandards
  • DatenqualitĂ€t & Modellarchitekturen: Welche Datenquellen? Welche Modelle? Welche Validierungsschritte?
  • Trade‑offs und Risiken: Genauigkeit vs. Transparenz, Geschwindigkeit vs. Governance
  • Echte Praxisbeispiele statt Hochglanzfolien

Big Picture EventStorming — Designing an OpenSpace Conference Together

Munich, đŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș Germany

This time we're doing something different — and bigger. đŸ—“ïž
Instead of talks, we'll spend the evening with our hands on sticky notes and our heads in a shared domain: planning an OpenSpace conference. Together, we'll run a full Big Picture EventStorming session, using the conference itself as our domain to explore.
What is EventStorming? EventStorming is a collaborative, visual workshop technique invented by Alberto Brandolini. A diverse group of people — no slides, no UML — gathers around a long paper roll and maps out a domain using orange sticky notes for domain events, commands, actors, and more. The result is a shared understanding that no single person could have created alone.
What will we do? We'll model the entire lifecycle of an OpenSpace conference: from the first spark of an idea, through session proposals, the marketplace, breakout rooms, all the way to retrospective and follow-up. In doing so, we'll discover boundaries, hotspots, and maybe even a bounded context or two. 😉
This format is perfect for experiencing EventStorming from the inside — as a participant, not just as a spectator. Whether you've facilitated dozens of sessions or never put an orange sticky note on a wall, you're welcome.
Why an OpenSpace as the domain? OpenSpace is a domain that most of us can reason about without deep prior knowledge, making it ideal for a hands-on learning session. And who knows, maybe we'll actually use the model for something real. 🚀
What to expect:

  • ~30 min warm-up & intro to EventStorming mechanics
  • ~90 min collaborative storming session
  • ~30 min debrief, discussion, and retrospective
  • Food, drinks, and good conversation

Come with curiosity and comfortable shoes — we'll be on our feet. đŸŠ¶
We're looking forward to storming with you!
