Online Monitoring of Mechanical Loads

Vehicle components are constantly affected by forces caused by acceleration, braking, road conditions, and driving behavior. These forces create material stresses, and repeated stress over time leads to fatigue—one of the main causes of component failure. Understanding how loads translate into stress and ultimately into damage is therefore essential.

In this talk, we present how a machine learning model can estimate mechanical loads even in vehicles without dedicated sensors for this purpose. By reconstructing hidden stresses from available vehicle data, the solution enables real-time fatigue assessment, improves component durability predictions, and supports safer, more reliable vehicle designs—without requiring additional hardware.

• Explore a real DROID robotics recording in FiftyOne's native multimodal MCAP viewer: camera, proprioception, and language on one synced timeline, no ROS install required
• Curate: extract and browse frames from the recording, filter and deduplicate
• Compute embeddings on the curated frames; explore via similarity search and embeddings visualization (via Nebius Serverless AI Jobs)

• Auto-label: open-vocabulary detection to generate bounding boxes for the robot gripper and target objects

I love TypeScript so much that i started organizing the Munich TypeScript Meetup. Yet I've barely written any TypeScript this year. My agents write a hell lot of it.
My motivation for organizing these events was spreading the word about a powerful tool so everyone can go and build stuff.

We're excited to be back with another evening of Database Internals!

This time, we'll look at what happens when open table formats meet native engines. Apache Iceberg V3 and Apache Parquet now carry geospatial types directly in table schemas and metadata, and ClickHouse is learning to keep its MergeTree ingestion speed while continuously landing the same data in Iceberg and Delta. With talks from Snowflake and ClickHouse, the evening will get into the spec-level and engine-level mechanics that let one dataset serve many engines.

As always, there will be plenty of time for networking, discussion, and snacks 🍕.

• Powering Spatial Analytics: Native Geospatial Types in Apache Iceberg

Abstract: Querying spatial data at scale in data lakes has historically relied on a mix of different storage formats, hindering interoperability and effective cross-engine metadata use. The introduction of native geospatial types to Apache Iceberg V3 and Apache Parquet elevated spatial concepts directly into table schemas and metadata.
In this talk, Philipp Fischbeck, Software Engineer at Snowflake, walks through the architectural journey of native geospatial types in Iceberg. We will trace how historical spatial representations evolved into native specification standards, break down the mechanics of planar Geometry versus spherical Geography coordinate systems, and demonstrate how query engines like Snowflake can perform spatial file pruning. Finally, we'll look behind the scenes at the open-source community effort across Apache Parquet and Iceberg that made standardized spatial lakehouse data possible.
Speaker Bio: Philipp Fischbeck is a Software Engineer on the SQL Data Types team at Snowflake, where he works on making complex data shapes, especially geospatial types, convenient and efficient to store and query. His work focuses on Snowflake's core SQL engine capabilities and its integration with open formats like Apache Iceberg and Apache Parquet.

• Interoperability Between ClickHouse and Data Lakes

Abstract: Teams increasingly want two things that usually pull in opposite directions: the raw query speed of ClickHouse for interactive analytics, and their data sitting in open lakehouse formats like Iceberg and Delta so the rest of their stack can use it. Writing directly into Iceberg or Delta is inefficient, a well-known limitation of these table formats. So instead of paying that cost on the write path, you ingest at full speed into a ClickHouse MergeTree table and let an Incremental Refreshable Materialized View asynchronously and incrementally batch the new rows into Iceberg or Delta, giving you both fast insertion and the open copy.
The effect is one dataset with two homes: you keep querying the fast, native MergeTree in ClickHouse, while the same data steadily accumulates in the open lakehouse for Spark, Trino, and anything else you run. Under the hood, it's powered by ClickHouse's streaming queries: each refresh runs a bounded streaming scan that reads only the rows committed since last time and remembers how far it got with a cursor, so the lake copy stays in sync without external orchestration or full reloads. It's simple today, with plenty of room to grow toward broader catalog support, richer transformations, and more efficient large-scale refreshes.

Speaker Bio: Smita Kulkarni is a software engineer at ClickHouse, where she has worked since 2022 on parameterized views, backups, and Azure support. Most recently she has focused on data lakes: Iceberg manifest compaction, Delta Lake support on Azure, and the Incremental Refreshable Materialized View that powers ClickHouse's lakehouse integration. Before ClickHouse, she worked on low-latency software.

🎤 What changed in this room? Spatial memory for physical AI on a Neo4j graph by Jordi Spranger

Robots and AI agents forget the world the moment the camera stops. Spranic gives machines a persistent memory of physical space: capture a room with commodity hardware, turn it into a scene graph in Neo4j, capture it again, and ask the graph what changed. In 20 minutes I show the live pipeline end to end, the graph model behind it (objects, positions, visits, time), and why a graph database is the right substrate for spatial memory. 🎤 It's the Context, Stupid! Context Management Strategies for Long-Horizon Agents by Tobias Lindenbauer, Jetbrains

Agents that write code, browse the web, or do research often start strong but collapse over long tasks: they forget what they already
tried, drown in their own tool outputs, or blow through the budget before finishing. In this talk, I'll walk through how context management for
agents evolved to solve this problem: from simple heuristics like summarization and observation masking, to strategies directly optimized via reinforcement learning. I'll close with a short demo of a tool I built for automatically analyzing thousands of agent runs to debug failure patterns.

Während man damit nicht das Modell erzeugen wird, das OpenAI oder Anthropic noch fehlt, gibt es eine Vielzahl von Beispielen, in denen es sich lohnt – etwa eigene Dense/Sparse/ColBert-Embeddings, kleine spezialisierte Modelle zur Extraktion und Aufbereitung von Daten und vieles mehr.

Das Schönste daran: Man muss 2027 auch nicht mehr schlau sein, weil ein neuer Kollege sich nicht nur besser auskennt, sondern auch mehr Ausdauer hat: der Agent im AutoResearch Loop.

Praxisorientiertes Ferienprogramm mit Coding, Robotik und KI für Kinder von 9 bis 12 Jahren (3-tägig)

Das „Future Tech Bootcamp – Coding, Robotic and AI For Kids“ bietet Kindern im Alter von 9 bis 12 Jahren einen spannenden und kreativen Einstieg in die Welt der Zukunftstechnologien. Spielerisch lernen die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer die Grundlagen von Programmierung, Robotik und Künstlicher Intelligenz kennen und entwickeln eigene kleine digitale Projekte.

In Anlehnung an moderne Lernkonzepte aus dem Bereich Kinder- und Jugendrobotik werden praktische Workshops mit Coding, intelligenten Geräten und kreativen KI-Anwendungen kombiniert. Die Kinder programmieren einfache Spiele und interaktive Anwendungen mit Scratch, steuern kleine Roboter und entdecken, wie Technologien wie Bilderkennung, Sprachsteuerung und Machine Learning funktionieren.

Das Bootcamp setzt auf praxisnahes Lernen, Teamarbeit und kreatives Experimentieren. Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich. Alle Materialien werden bereitgestellt.
