Brainberg

🇩🇪 Tech Events in Germany

Germany runs the densest tech-event calendar in continental Europe, anchored by Berlin's deep Rust, Go, data, and AI-applied scenes and complemented by active communities in Munich (embedded, mobility tech), Hamburg (media and product), Frankfurt (cloud and fintech), and Cologne (games, devrel). Active cities on Brainberg right now include Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Nuremberg, Leipzig, and Potsdam. Brainberg aggregates listings from multiple event platforms and community calendars into a single European feed, so the full schedule for the country shows up in one chronological view instead of spread across separate platforms.

KMU meets AI #3

Efficient Information Retrieval – Part I

Potsdam, 🇩🇪 Germany

AI Workshop | Introduction to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

Do you spend too much time searching for information in PDFs, folder structures or internal documentation? Traditional AI chatbots quickly reach their limits here, either because they do not have access to your data or because sensitive content would have to be passed on to external providers.

In part I of this four-part workshop series, you will learn how to set up a local, data-secure system on your laptop. This system enables you to retrieve specific information from your own documents and generate context-related, comprehensible answers from it, without sharing your data with third-party providers.

Typical applications include internal knowledge databases, guidelines, and project documentation.

A retrieval-augmented generation system (RAG system) can generate answers based on your data. In this workshop you will learn the fundamental building blocks: local large language models (LLM), embeddings, and vector databases. By the end, you will understand how RAG works, its advantages over pure LLM queries, and how to evaluate whether RAG is suitable for your own data and use cases.

In the practical part of this workshop, you will install a complete minimal version of a RAG system:

· Local LLM (CPU- or GPU-accelerated), hosted with vLLM

· Simple vector database based on Qdrant

· Example documents indexed using different embedding models

· Retrieval using various semantic search techniques

· Generating answers based on relevant information and your own prompts

You will learn the basics of semantic vectors (e.g., distance metrics such as cosine similarity) and explore various open-source models. Advanced concepts such as Graph RAG or HNSW are introduced conceptually but not yet covered in depth.

👉 This workshop lays the foundation for all other parts of the series.
After the workshop, you will have a working local RAG system and know how to transfer it to your own data.

Requirements

Experience with Python, GitHub, and Docker.
or completion of our Getting Started Guide
or participation in our basic workshop ‘First steps towards your own AI application’.

Registration & participation

Registration is binding. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your ticket in good time to allow other participants to take your place.

Important Information

Photographs, audio recordings and films will be made during the event. By participating in the event, you agree that photos, audio and video recordings in which you are recognizable may be published as part of the public relations work of the AI Service Center Berlin-Brandenburg and the HPI.

Bring your laptop, curiosity, and ambition.

We’re excited to bring together women in Berlin who want to build skills, share knowledge, and shape the future of work together.

About Know Your Needs:

Know Your Needs helps organisations create environments where people can truly thrive. Where emotional intelligence, care, and meaning are part of how work gets done, not something added on afterward.

The work began with simple observation: across hundreds of conversations with employees, founders, and creative leaders, the same patterns appeared. What people needed most at work rarely came down to perks or productivity; it was about feeling recognised, supported, and able to grow without losing themselves in the process.

Founded by Ottoline, Know Your Needs brings together decades of curiosity about what helps humans flourish. Her path has blended philosophy, psychology, and lived experience: studying linguistics and Sanskrit philosophy at Oxford, working in Berlin’s fast‑paced tech world, and working for the past 5 years as a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist.

This blend of perspectives shapes an approach grounded in both depth and practicality; one that connects the inner world of people with the outer systems they inhabit.

At its heart, Know Your Needs is about creating workplaces that meet our core human needs for purpose, belonging, and growth. When those needs are met, people don’t just perform better, they feel alive in what they do and connected to the people they do it with.

Meet mindocu – AI for the Reports That Decide People's Lives

Erlangen, 🇩🇪 Germany

Every psychological expert report starts the same way: hours of exploration interviews, pages of handwritten notes, and then the slow, painful process of turning it all into a structured, court-ready document. Classifications looked up in books. Text blocks copy-pasted from old files. The same sentences rewritten for the hundredth time.
Johannes knew this pain firsthand — as a student assistant at a psychological practice, he spent his days doing exactly that. His first fix was a personal Excel tool. Then he thought: what if this could work for everyone?

That idea became mindocu — a Würzburg-based startup building AI-powered software specifically for psychologists and expert witnesses who create psychological and psychosocial reports. Their solution transcribes exploration interviews automatically, organizes recurring text blocks, and supports the formulation of structured, high-quality reports. Fully DSGVO-compliant, developed in Germany, data stays where it belongs.
But building AI for one of the most sensitive domains imaginable — reports that influence custody decisions, criminal verdicts, and people's lives — is anything but straightforward. How do you earn the trust of expert witnesses who carry enormous professional responsibility? How do you design a product that genuinely supports judgment without replacing it? And how do you go from a frustrated student's Excel sheet to a fundable, scalable startup?

Meet the mindocu team, with Anna Manger, Johannes Störlein & Oliver Gawron at our StartUp-Event — where they'll share the challenges and learnings of turning a real pain point into a real product..
After the presentation, we will discuss the topic within our interdisciplinary health hacker community!

Agenda*:

18:45 – 19:45 Pitch, demo and Q&A
19:45 – 20:45 General discussion after
20:45 Drinks & Chat

Rust in May: Rust for Starters, Part 2

Cologne, 🇩🇪 Germany

Rust Cologne is a monthly meetup dealing with everything Rust.
We'll be talking about basic language features, such as data structures, error handling, crates and modules. This will be very beginner friendly.

(The meetup will likely be held in German but we'll switch to English if needed.)

Dear Rustacean,

you are hereby warmly invited to join the next Rust Cologne meetup. Whether you want to speed up your python code, write a web service, need interop with your C++-codebase, cross-compile for a microcontroller, write an emulator, … we've got you covered!

We commonly open up with a brief summary of noteworthy changes in the Rust ecosystem. Be it updates to the language itself, public events, its impact on other projects and languages, …

In the main part we'll do some live coding around basic language features such as defining our own types, enums, error handling, traits, importing crates and using modules to structure your code. If you want to actively participate, make sure to bring a laptop; ideally with a pre-installed IDE and rust toolchain. There will be some time before the official part starts, where we can help you to get things up and running.

As usual, the remaining time is about whatever you want to talk about!

Always wanted to know why Rust is harder to learn than other popular languages or why it lacks a certain feature? When is it appropriate to rewrite a project in Rust? Is the compiler really that slow and are the binaries really that big? Do all those safety guarantees have an impact on the performance? Fetch a drink and let's find out.

See you soon!

Yours,
Florian and Kai

---
If you have a topic you'd like to talk about, please let us know in advance. This way we can make sure there's a time-slot for you and maybe announce it officially. Thank you.

Multi‑Agent Build: AI Agents With Eyes: Vision + Tools + Collaboration

Ulm, 🇩🇪 Germany

From Single Agents to Intelligent Teams — How Multi‑Agent Systems Work

Goal****:**** Show how to build a small multi‑agent system where one agent analyzes images (using computer vision) and another takes actions based on the analysis (sends a notification email). Participants see how agents collaborate and use tools in a real scenario.

Agenda
  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Lightning talk: “From Single Agents to Intelligent Teams — How Multi‑Agent Systems Work"
  • Network and connect with other participants
Live demo****:****

Build a system where:

  • Vision Agent analyzes an image (e.g., packaging defect)
  • Action Agent decides what to do next (classify severity and if severity over a certain level, then send an email)
  • Closing & networking: Share multi‑agent ideas for robotics, office automation, quality checks, or smart assistants.

Expected Outcome: Participants leave with a simple working multi‑agent pipeline, a clear understanding of how vision + logic agents collaborate, and new ideas for real‑world applications (quality control, inventory, OCR, monitoring, creative projects).
