Tech Policy, Ethics & AI Governance Events in Europe

European tech-policy and ethics events have grown into their own circuit, driven largely by the AI conversation and by the continent's unusually active relationship with tech regulation. This page covers the bigger conversations about technology rather than the hands-on building: AI governance, AI ethics, responsible-AI leadership, digital ethics, tech-in-society discussions, and the intersection of AI with education, law, and public institutions.

Most current events are AI-flavored: AI in education, AI and public-sector decision-making, AI ethics reading groups, book-club-style evenings, and university-hosted symposia. Formal regulatory briefings around the AI Act, NIS2, DSA/DMA, and related European frameworks show up when they happen, alongside broader digital-rights conferences like RightsCon and MozFest, but they're the minority here rather than the center of gravity.

Expect events across Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, the Nordics, and the Low Countries, often hosted by universities, research institutes, think tanks, or civil-society organizations. Brainberg aggregates this scene so the fragmented policy-and-ethics landscape shows up in one feed rather than scattered across institutional mailing lists.

UX Monthly: Responsible AI and the role of design

Amsterdam, 🇳🇱 Netherlands

Digital technologies have a growing environmental and social impact, one that will continue to increase as systems scale and evolve. This shift challenges the role of designers, who can no longer focus solely on user needs but must consider the broader ecosystem in which technology operates. This talk explores how design operates across multiple layers, opening a perspective on more responsible approaches to innovation.

Workshop: Anonymisation at the Crossroads of EU Digital Regulations

Brussels, 🇧🇪 Belgium

Workshop on anonymisation and data regulation, highlighting preliminary EC findings against Alphabet on Article 6(11) DMA compliance.

This workshop will examine the growing centrality of anonymisation in EU digital regulation, with particular focus on the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Recent enforcement developments , most notably the European Commission's preliminary findings on the sharing of search data, confirm that anonymisation and re-identification risk now lie at the heart of the policy debate.

The workshop's first objective is to understand how the Commission seeks to combine technical and contractual controls, why it appears to favour a heuristics-based approach over established anonymisation models such as k-anonymity, and what alternative approaches could offer in terms of privacy guarantees and utility preservation.

The discussion will then situate these developments within the broader regulatory context of the proposed Digital Omnibus package, which includes amendments to the definition of personal data and, through Article 41a, seeks to recalibrate the institutional balance between the Commission and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).

Against this backdrop, the workshop asks whether the EU is witnessing the emergence of a new governance model for anonymisation, one shaped less by horizontal instruments than by sector-specific measures. Workshop participants will discuss the implications of these trends for privacy protection and regulatory coherence across the Union.
