Brainberg

Software Engineering Events in London

This is the widest category on Brainberg, because software engineering itself spans a huge range of events: language user groups (Python, Rust, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Elixir, Ruby, Zig), framework communities (React, Svelte, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, NixOS), backend architecture tracks, testing and QA tracks (ISTQB certification courses, mutation testing, test-automation workshops), refactoring and DDD circles, hackathons, and the long tail of "thoughtful engineering" meetups that don't fit neatly under any specific stack.

This page narrows the London calendar to Software Engineering events. It's a subset of United Kingdom's wider tech-event schedule, useful when you want something specific to go to in the city this month.

London has one of the largest single-city tech-event calendars in the world. Every major engineering discipline sustains multiple monthly meetups here (AI-applied, ML research, backend, frontend, cloud, DevOps, security, data), and every major international conference has a London edition or satellite. Engineering leadership is unusually strong: LeadDev London is effectively a pilgrimage event, and CTO Craft, staff-engineer communities, and product-management meetups (Mind The Product) run year-round.

Vibe Coding: Level Up

London, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Vibe Coding Collective is a global community helping anyone turn ideas into working software with AI. We host relaxed social coding jams in bars, cafés, and maker spaces. Whether you're a developer or have never written a line of code, you'll fit right in!

On June 23, we're teaming up with Momen for a special edition about building full-stack with vibes. It is the visual backend, that seamlessly turns front-end "vibes" from tools like Cursor or Lovable into scalable databases, AI workflows, and secure, production-ready architectures.

Format 🛠️

We team up in small groups of 3-4.
You'll start by designing and laying out your app by hand, dragging and dropping the screens, deciding how it should look and feel. Then you go from there to vibe-coded backends, including databases, workflows, AI agents, and logins.
By the end you've gone from a blank canvas to a real, working app with a brain behind it.
The goal is to vibe, and learn from each other.

New to vibe coding? ✨

No worries. We provide simple starter ideas and example prompts so even total beginners can dive straight in without stress.

Schedule 🕒

19:00 — Welcome
19:05 — Intro from the Momen team
19:15 — Live workshop: Building a challenge app with Momen
19:45 — Challenge briefing & team formation
20:00 — Build time
21:00 — Optional demos (show what you made!)
21:30 — Hang out, network, make friends

Who is it for?

Anyone! Curious coders, tinkerers, designers, founders, AI-curious folks, and developers. If you've ever wanted to take an idea all the way to a real, full-stack app without writing code, you belong here.

What to bring

- Laptop 💻
- Vibes ⚡

Location 📍

Brewhouse and Kitchen Highbury
2A Corsica St, N5 1JJ, London

About Vibe Coding Collective

==== 📓 Agenda📓 =====

(Certain timings and orders may be subject to change)

5:30pm onwards: Sign-In, Food & Refreshments
6:55pm: Introduction

7:00pm: 🗣️ Jon Bodner: From the Basics to synctest

Testing is fundamental to software engineering and as a language focused on software engineering, Go includes a wide variety of tools to ensure your code is working as expected. I’ll walk through the basics of testing in Go, and then cover some of the more advanced tools: benchmarking, fuzzing, and the new synctest package.

7:40pm: Raffle and Break

8:10pm: 🗣️ Simon Emms: Failure Happens. Your Code Shouldn't Care

As Gophers, we expect our code to be retried, restarted and run more than once. The challenge is making that safe and maintainable without layers of defensive plumbing. Temporal lets us write reliable workflows in Go that automatically recover from crashes and restarts, while still looking and feeling like normal Go code. In this talk, I’ll explain how it works and prove it with a live demo that treats failure as just another code path.

8:40pm: Raffle Winners!

9:00pm: Pub!

Trends in Defence Tech

London, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

WiTT's September meeting will focus on technology trends in the defence sector

In a normal year the WiTT board would have a healthy debate about topics to address in our upcoming panel discussions: a new angle on AI? Data centres? Fibre vs. satellite? Is mobile still a separate area? But this is not a normal year: “UK drives off Russian submarines lurking near subsea cables”; “Russian spy spacecraft have intercepted Europe’s key satellites, officials believe”; “Big Tech's new reality: Data centers are a war target”. It was clear we should address the topic of defence tech.

Wars in Ukraine and Iran have led Western governments to increase military budgets, especially in areas related to technology. In fact in June 2025 Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced the biggest sustained increase in defence spending in the UK since the Cold War — £5 billion — with a focus on innovation in drone and laser weapon technology as well as AI for precision targeting and other applications.

WiTT’s panel will take a closer look at some of the technologies being funded and developed to improve preparedness. We’ll also discuss the threats to our tech infrastructure, and the larger legal and ethical issues that arise from the use of some of these technologies: can autonomous systems be trusted to target combatants only? Does the UK need to own more of the cloud and data centre infrastructure we’ve come to rely on? Do we need to modify procurement strategies?

WiTT board director Yasmeen Majid will chair our panel. Speakers will be announced closer to the event date.

We'll begin at 6:00pm with networking. The panel will run from 6:45 to 7:45, including Q&A. Drinks and canapes will be served after the panel finishes.

WiTT would like to thank CMS for hosting.

Please email info@wittgroup.org if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you on September 14th!
