Brainberg

Software Engineering Events in London

This is the widest category on Brainberg, because software engineering itself spans a huge range of events: language user groups (Python, Rust, Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Elixir, Ruby, Zig), framework communities (React, Svelte, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, NixOS), backend architecture tracks, testing and QA tracks (ISTQB certification courses, mutation testing, test-automation workshops), refactoring and DDD circles, hackathons, and the long tail of "thoughtful engineering" meetups that don't fit neatly under any specific stack.

This page narrows the London calendar to Software Engineering events. It's a subset of United Kingdom's wider tech-event schedule, useful when you want something specific to go to in the city this month.

London has one of the largest single-city tech-event calendars in the world. Every major engineering discipline sustains multiple monthly meetups here (AI-applied, ML research, backend, frontend, cloud, DevOps, security, data), and every major international conference has a London edition or satellite. Engineering leadership is unusually strong: LeadDev London is effectively a pilgrimage event, and CTO Craft, staff-engineer communities, and product-management meetups (Mind The Product) run year-round.

Software EngineeringHackathonFree

Superlinked X Qwen Hackathon

London, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Invite only. 25 seats. One day.

We're bringing 25 hand-picked builders into one room for a single day to build on Qwen, end to end. Every model call in the room runs Qwen: Superlinked's inference engine (SIE) serves the Qwen catalog, and Alibaba Cloud Model Studio serves the frontier stack (qwen-max, Qwen-VL, plus image and video generation). You'll ship on both.

This is a private event co-hosted by Superlinked and the Alibaba Cloud Qwen team. Applicants will be hand-picked from the event waitlist, so bring your A-game!

What you'll build

The main challenge: build anything real around model routing. Every request flows through SIE, and you can offload the heavy tasks to Alibaba Cloud when it makes sense (rewarded in judging). Think routing dashboards, agents doing tool calls across both backends, whatever you can stand up in a day.

Two side tracks run alongside it:

  • Visual track: every team explains their build with a Qwen-generated image or video. Best one takes the track.
  • Social track: post publicly about what you're building. Most impressions by judging time wins.

The day

  • 09:00 Intros and sponsor talks from Superlinked and the Qwen team
  • 10:00 Team formation
  • 11:00 Build (support desk staffed all day)
  • 18:00 Submissions close (hard cut)
  • 18:00 Judging across all three tracks
  • 19:00 Winners announced

Prizes:

Winner of 1:  $1000 Superlinked Cloud credits + $300 cloud/model studio coupon +  DJI Mic Mini 2
Winner of 2:  $500 Superlinked Cloud credits + $200 cloud/model studio coupon +  DJI Mic Mini 2
Winner of 3:  $250 Superlinked Cloud credits + $100 cloud/model studio coupon +  DJI Mic Mini 2

Venue and food provided on the day. You bring the ideas and a laptop.

Tech Startups in the Pub - Relaxed Networking

London, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

After work drinks for tech startup founders and teams, investors and tech enthusiasts.

While many co-working spaces run events for their members, and while there are many talks that attract people in a specific stage or role, it's nice to have a casual event that people can attend no matter where they are based, what stage their startup is at, or what their role is in the company. You could be a founder doing your first steps in the startup world and working from home, or a developer in a company that just made an exit and is based at the top of The Shard - everyone is welcome and we're sure everyone has something to learn and something they can share with others.

We meet at the Windmill in the City (27 Tabernacle St, Shoreditch, London EC2A 4DE) and will be there from 6pm. We hope to see you there! If you can’t make it this time, we meet at the same pub on the 3rd Friday of every month, so it's one for the diary!

HOUSE RULES

- Let Oliver, Pedro, Rob or other Rob, or anyone else with a burgundy T-shirt know when you’ve arrived so we can introduce you to everyone. We are not booking the venue for ourselves, so if you show up without saying hello, you may find yourself spending half an hour celebrating someone’s birthday party before you realise you’re sitting with the wrong bunch.

- No hard sales, this is a friendly after-work tech drinks thing, so no heavy-handed pitching

- If drinking is not your thing, that's cool too. Come and hang out anyway.

Meetup #4

London, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Thank you everyone for joining us at the last event with Emma and Zack! It was such a great event and super engaging with an awesome crowd as always. Now we move onto the 4th meet up of the year hosted by the wonderful team at Tessl! Grab an RSVP when you can as we have limited space available!

🎤 Macey Baker | Agent Enablement @ Tessl
🗣️ Dimming the Lights
Lessons from the front lines of transforming our enterprise SDLC into a dark factory. We'll talk about quick wins, surprising sticking points, the unsolved problems of orchestration and validation, and controlled experiments and challenges that you can try with your team.

Bio
As Tessl's Founding Agent Enablement Engineer, Macey Baker is busy helping to build the future of AI-native development (and helping you build it too). Now an AI code generation obsessive, she got her start as an early employee at tech unicorn Intercom in San Francisco, before jumping the pond and roaming the London startup scene, working primarily in big data / ML houses. Some of her best friends are LLMs.

🎤 Holly Smith | Staff Developer Advocate @ Databricks
🗣️ What even is a meta-harness, and why has Databricks just open-sourced one?
Databricks keeps open-sourcing ambitious things and seeing what sticks. Spark stuck. Dolly didn't. Delta Sharing did. In June 2026 they added Omnigent, a "meta-harness" that sits above Claude Code, Codex, and friends. So did Vercel. So did five other people. The whole category is six months old.
This talk walks through what a meta-harness is, why everyone in the AI space built one in the same month, how Omnigent compares to the alternatives. And, honestly, whether any of them will still exist by next year.

Bio
Holly Smith is a developer advocate and multi-award-winning Data and AI expert and tech communicator with over a decade of experience working at the cutting edge of Data and AI in various capacities. One of the first employees at Databricks, she is a renowned public speaker and teacher. She is well known for her YouTube series on data engineering.

As always we kick things off with some pizza, drinks and networking around 6pm. We will then start the talks at 6.30pm sharp, please arrive on time!

See you then :D

Our Four Summit Themes

Build: Materials, Manufacturing & Devices (Hosted: NMI)

From novel materials to advanced packaging, this session examines how innovation across the semiconductor value chain is enabling the next generation of technologies and devices. We will explore materials science, equipment development, process engineering, packaging, and test to share how foundational advances are unlocking new capabilities.

As traditional scaling reaches its limits, the industry is turning to heterogeneous integration, new materials, and smarter manufacturing. AI-driven design and process optimisation, next-generation fabrication tools, and advanced packaging techniques are accelerating development, and we will also look to the future possibilities which this enables.

Create: Systems, Integration & Verification (Hosted: AESIN & DESN)

Complex Cyber-Physical Systems demand robust and functionally safe end-to-end system engineering. This session will explore digital, mixed signal design and software-defined systems, software factory and related design tools, edge-AI, automated decision-driven sensing, cyber resilience, smart power and energy systems and precise positioning, navigation, and timing.

Secure: Cyber Resilience, Trust & Quantum Safety (Hosted: IoTSF)

In an increasingly connected and AI-driven world, identity, security and trust are critical system requirements. This session examines the interplay between technology innovation in both threat and mitigation, together with increasing international regulation. We also consider the role of AI and quantum as these technologies change the very nature of trust, identity and security.

Scale: Investing in the future of UK semiconductors (Hosted: UKSC)

Turning innovation into impact requires more than breakthrough technology. This session brings together perspectives on investment, commercialisation, scaling UK semiconductor innovation, and building resilient international partnerships and supply chains. It also explores how research is translated into sustainable commercial success, and how we develop the workforce needed to support long-term growth.

Trends in Defence Tech

London, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom

WiTT's September meeting will focus on technology trends in the defence sector

In a normal year the WiTT board would have a healthy debate about topics to address in our upcoming panel discussions: a new angle on AI? Data centres? Fibre vs. satellite? Is mobile still a separate area? But this is not a normal year: “UK drives off Russian submarines lurking near subsea cables”; “Russian spy spacecraft have intercepted Europe’s key satellites, officials believe”; “Big Tech's new reality: Data centers are a war target”. It was clear we should address the topic of defence tech.

Wars in Ukraine and Iran have led Western governments to increase military budgets, especially in areas related to technology. In fact in June 2025 Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced the biggest sustained increase in defence spending in the UK since the Cold War — £5 billion — with a focus on innovation in drone and laser weapon technology as well as AI for precision targeting and other applications.

WiTT’s panel will take a closer look at some of the technologies being funded and developed to improve preparedness. We’ll also discuss the threats to our tech infrastructure, and the larger legal and ethical issues that arise from the use of some of these technologies: can autonomous systems be trusted to target combatants only? Does the UK need to own more of the cloud and data centre infrastructure we’ve come to rely on? Do we need to modify procurement strategies?

WiTT board director Yasmeen Majid will chair our panel. Speakers will be announced closer to the event date.

We'll begin at 6:00pm with networking. The panel will run from 6:45 to 7:45, including Q&A. Drinks and canapes will be served after the panel finishes.

WiTT would like to thank CMS for hosting.

Please email info@wittgroup.org if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you on September 14th!

Run by Harpswood, you should join these if:

  • You're eager to raise the profile of your organisation in the media and want to speak with journalists but don’t know where to start
  • You're looking to attract investors, announce a new partnership, or promote a fundraise
  • You need help distilling and delivering your messages

PLEASE NOTE: Spots are limited for office hours and are available by application only. You'll automatically receive an invitation to apply if you're a startup. If you're an SME or feel these Office Hours would be relevant to you, please drop us an email at aaron@climateconnection.co.uk.

About Climate Connection

Fed up of stuffy conferences, boring speeches, and dinners where you're stuck sitting next to one person? So are we.

At Climate Connection, we create the types of events we wish we were invited to: events with thoughtful conversations, curated connections, and real learning.

We are expert experience and event designers on a mission to grow the climate tech ecosystem through meaningful connections. Based in London, we have galvanised over 15,000+ connections and we run 40+ events per year.

Hosted by The Conduit

The Conduit is a community of people committed to creating a just, prosperous and sustainable future.

Our members are entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, business leaders, activists, civil-society leaders and policymakers, bringing together knowledge, networks and capital for sustained positive impact, in our London and Oslo clubs.
