Join us at Stripe’s Dublin office on 10 November for a fast-paced, hands-on hackathon exploring the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP).

The challenge: build an API or service that AI agents can pay to use. Think a useful data feed, a clever developer tool, or a niche service that solves one problem brilliantly. With MPP, an agent can request a resource, pay for it, and get the result directly over the web.

You’ll have 90 minutes to turn your idea into a working prototype, experiment with payments, and build alongside other curious developers. Keep it small, try something unexpected, and see what you can ship before the clock runs out.
Whether you’re excited about AI agents, APIs, or new ways to get paid for what you build, this is a chance to get hands-on.

Craft Night has returned to Tog!

From 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm every second Sunday, drop by and join in.

Whether you make the yarn itself (we love spinners!) or noodle about with e-textiles and blinky quilts, you will be very welcome.

Welcome to learn and discuss Linux & c++ topics on Tue 24.11.

First lightning talk of the evening is “Building Software from Source Code” by Aleksei Markov. We go over installing software from the source code yourself, in a way it can be also uninstalled easily later. We discuss the pulling of the dependencies, typical pitfalls of the configuration and building, and possible future improvements of the process. This skill is useful especially when the available packages don’t offer the version or build configuration you need. Aleksei is a programmer working mainly on compilers, GUIs, graphics & web development, and a huge proponent of simple, efficient & accessible software.

Next we hear “Why can’t it all be the ONE code base?” from Sascha Bacardit Cuomo (Senior Software Engineer, SiriusXM). The topic is how to share platform-agnostic business logic across applications, while reaching as many users as possible and keeping limited resources and long-term maintainability in mind. We explore ways to connect native UIs to a shared core, from services accessed through inter-process communication to libraries using the C ABI. C Application Binary Interface (ABI) lets separately compiled libraries and programs work together, including code written in different languages.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced Linux/c++ enthusiast, you are very welcome to join. This event is a joint meetup between Dublin C++ User Group, Linux Developers Ireland and Dublin Linux Community. Please RSVP in one of the 3 meetup groups, so we know the seating needs beforehand.

19:00 - Talk 1: When Is the Incident Over? by Paul Horgan
Every incident response framework tells you how to detect, contain, eradicate and recover. Almost none of them tell you when you’re allowed to stop. The systems are back and the ticket is closed, but that doesn’t mean it’s finished. The temporary firewall rule is still there. Some of the remediation has slipped down the backlog. Someone has accepted a risk without anyone really deciding to. And the team is tired, while the business trusts security a little less than it did last month.

This talk is about the gap between technical recovery and organisational recovery. I’ll share a practical set of questions to ask before anyone declares an incident over: what is still unresolved, what risk remains and who owns it, and what evidence do we have that the organisation can safely move on? Closing the ticket is admin. Ending the incident is a business decision.

Professor Nick Couldry will present his new book and open up a discussion on AI and the future of humanity and our planet.

"We are told that AI is inevitable, a revolutionary next stage in planetary intelligence. The calculative power that Big Tech is harnessing via its AI products cannot be doubted. But what if humanity is entering into the wrong social contract with AI?

A good future for humanity cannot mean inputting our lives into predatory AI models whose terms we don't control. It cannot mean trading away our own cognitive resources – and the power to define the future direction of the human mind – to corporations. It cannot mean ever greater cognitive dependence on business products, while ignoring the implications for environmental sustainability.

A good future with AI must mean putting social, community and planetary values first. This book imagines a different social contract with AI, and a different future. It presents clearly the social damage currently being done at work, and particularly the education and creative sectors, by accepting the wrong social contract with AI. He is the author or editor of eighteen books including The Costs of Connection (with Ulises Mejias, Stanford University Press, 2019), The Mediated Construction of Reality (with Andreas Hepp, Polity, 2016), and Media, Society, World: Social Theory and Digital Media Practice (Polity 2012). His latest books are Predatory AI: How We can Resist Corporate Capture of the Human Mind (Polity, November 2026), The Space of the World: Can Human Solidarity Survive Social Media and What if it Can’t?
